  1. Hey there,

We also have noticed this small bug and are working on a fix as we speak. In the mean time there is a work around. Try highlighting part of the wave form and then check the file menu, the save and saveas options should not be present. Do not be concerned that this will only save the highlighted part of the wave form, the entire file will be saved.

I do hope this helps you until we have the fix ready for relese.

Hold on a bit with that fix or relese or whatever.

I can vouch for the fact that a bug-in-the-bush is an excellent source of protein!

  2. Anyone researched the quality of the broadcast signal? I would like to know what codec and parameters would be appropriate for recording this feed? :(

What broadcast signal are you talking about? I am asking this question since your use of the definite article "the" (the broadcast) indicates that you are talking about some specific broadcast signal.

Perhaps you do not mean "the," but rather "a." If you do mean "a" broadcast instead of "the" broadcast, then you are talking about broadcasting in general. If this is indeed the case and I suspect that it is, are you referring to an FM broadcast or to an online radio broadcast (i.e., a streaming internet signal)?

Perhaps unfortunately, we are constrained to discussion here in the English language, which employs both definite and indefinite articles for clarity. Other languages (such as Slavic languages, for example) do not have this luxury. One of these other languages (not necessarily Slavic) may be your native language, which has forced me to ask you for clarification.

If you can answer my question, I will try to zero in on what you are seeking. If you cannot, then I cannot help you. It's this simple.

(how to answer a deceptively simple question with a complex question on communication!)

  3. Yes, I'm aware of the uncompressed nature of the .aif file. The 8khz is essentially "AM Radio" quality. However, there is also a bitrate element that comes into play. It is possible to set the bitrate in other audio applications, but I can't seem to find it in this application.

As far as I know, WavePad only permits the user to choose various bitrates which reflect varying degrees of digital compression. For example, after editing an uncompressed .wav file, this file may be saved in a highly compressed form as an mp3 file with a bitrate of 8 kbps. This can be selected in the dialogue box which appears after choosing the "save file as" option from the file menu. As you are aware, this option to alter the bitrate does not appear when the file is being saved as a .aif file.

In other words, I do not know how one has an "audio quality" file which is not created by the process of compressing .wav (or equivalently, an .aif) file. Maybe someone else around here knows where to get such a file, and understands the process which is used to create it. But don't bet on it. By the way, where did you get a .aif file with a bitrate of 8 kbps?

  4. I have some small sound files that are an 8k sample rate and an 8 bitrate. However, when I edit the sound file (they are all .aif files and need to stay that way) and save it with an 8k sample rate, the file doubles in size. I don't see a way to set the bitrate in the WavePad software. It looks like it is converting it from 8 bit to 16 bit.

    Can anyone help?

An .aif file is the Apple analogue of a Windows .wav file. They are both _uncompressed_ digital sound files. I should point out that a bitrate of 8 khz represents a very high degree of compression! Hence your question does not make sense.

Please explain where you get an .aif file with an 8k sample rate and an "8" bitrate (whatever this means).

  5. hey guys, i just downloaded the free switch converter today and i converted a bunch of oma. files to mp3 and everything was fine untill i realised that all converted tracks were only 1:02 long!

would LOVE some help to work this out.

I've never encountered this type of file, but I'll take a wild guess.

Perhaps "oma" stands for One Minute Advertisement.

    Just LOVE that oma!

  6. Hey Kavman,

Sounds like Golden Records might be what ur after.

the screenshots of the wizard show the automatic click and pop reduction. probably easier than using wavepad

Do you know that this procedure does what it says that it does?

It is one thing to show a procedure for doing something, yet quite another to confirm that this procedure actually does what is promised. Which is it in this case?

There is many a slip between a promise and the lip.....

  7. Maybe you forgot to look in the "effects" menu!

No, I didn't forget to look at the 'effects' menu. I read every word in the help file. First off, it doesn't look like any equalizer I've ever seen or used. And I've used a few. Secondly, for all its features, it offers very few examples.

OK, it could be argued there are simply too many possibilities to provide examples for. I would suggest, however, that what I'm trying to do is very typical of what most audiophiles and ordinary listeners want to hear...more base. If there is a base guitar, we want to hear it; if the drummer is using his base drum, we want to hear it.

WavePad is a very powerful little program, no question. But from a new user standpoint, it's not the most intuitive program I've ever used. Altho I come out of the broadcasting industry, I'm not a sound engineer. And don't want to be. I simply want to do one thing...add in more base, to the entire song. Then decide if I added too much or too little, and be able to change it as desired.

And I havn't "hopped, skipped nor jumped" in so many years I don't think I'd remember how.

  8. I've downloaded 4 or 5 NCH programs, and like all of them. There is a learning curve, but it's not bad. After an hour using WordPad, I was able to record a song from a commercial cassette. The quality (using some of the filters) sounds much better than the cassette,

However, what I'd like to do is add in more base before transfering the songs to a CD. This is often done with an equalizer, but I can't seem to find one among the various programs. Maybe I just missed it. Or maybe there's another way to do it.

    Suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Wes N

    Here's a suggestion.

Maybe you forgot to look in the "effects" menu! Unless my eyes deceive me, there is an entry there which says equalizer.

Could this be the very same equalizer that _you_ are asking about? Note that I did not hop, skip, or jump over it, as you seem to have done :-)

  9. Hoe do you record voice from a cassette so it is clear and audible. I am new at this. I have tried everything I can find. Thanks Bob My email is bobworth@centurytel.nmet in case I am unable to get back to the forum. Thanks

A good piece of software for this task is "Golden Records" from NCH.

There is a help file which should get you started. However, do not expect immediate results, since there is a bit to learn!
