Express Scribe popping up when Hot Keys pressed

The rewind button on my foot pedal isn't working well so I've been using F7 to rewind lately. But last night I updated to Version 4.23 and now when I'm typing along in Word and press F7 to rewind it pops up and I have to reach for my mouse to click back into the Word screen and keep going.

I've checked the settings and controls and must be missing something because I can't make it stop.

Any ideas?

Hey, not sure if this will help but you might want to try reprogramming the F7 hotkey to see if it will work correctly.

From the main Express Scribe main menu select:

Control > Hot Keys Setup

In the bottom portion of the dialog that pops up you’ll find the “System Wide Hotkey Assignment”

Scroll down the list of hot keys until you find the F7 function, select that by clicking on it once.

Remove this function by clicking on the Remove button. Your Rewind hotkey is now gone.

To add something to replace it, click on the Add button, you’ll be asked to “Press key or key combination” – Try something like Ctrl+F8 (Control key plus the F8 function key) as this is not assigned in the default Word setup.

Once you’ve done that a Select Command dialog will appear, scroll down to the Rewind function and select that, click OK to add the function to your hotkey list. Exit the Control dialog and give it a shot to see if this fixes the problem.

Hope it works for you!

Thanks, what I actually did was found an older version of Express Scribe and went back to that. :)

I want to add my voice to say I'm having the same problem, and can't find a working link to 4.05. This is a serious problem as it slows down typing speed considerably. :(

For anyone who did not go back to version 4.22 and still using version 4.23, you can immediately press F6 after using F7 to rewind. F6 then closes the Express Scribe window and you don't have to take your hands off the keyboard. I discovered this not long after I downloaded 4.23 about a month ago and I've gotten so used to doing it that I don't even notice it anymore. Hope that will work for you. Let's hope they fix this in the next version. :D

I'm still using 4.22 and was checking on whether it was worth updating. I've gotten into the habit of never downloading and running the updates... save them to the hard drive, and THEN run and install it. Then when the next update comes along, you don't overwrite it... save that to the hdd, run and install it, and if it doesn't work as well as the previous one, you have a fall back. And any versions that are particularly good... say they load dss and sony files and all that, keep those too... and otherwise delete anything older than two versions. --KRN
