jvilkka
New here, and new to VideoPad. I have been, in general, happy about how well the program works. I seem to be using the Professional version, v. 16.08 Feb 20 2024. I have no training in anything like this, so it's nice to have a simple, intuitive program. So far all I have done with it, is cutting videos (using crossfades and such). Previously, I have had no issues, and I wonder if that might be because I have always done everything in one session, then exported the video (I like how fast that happens!). BUT, now I have a strange issue: I recorded an unusually long (for me) video, about 75 min. I then started doing the cutting I explained above, but because it took me too much time to do in one session, I just saved the project, to continue a few days later. I thought everything was going smoothly as it always had so far. But when I opened the project, the audio and video in the preview were completely out of sync! I couldn't figure out what had happened, as I had done everything as I always do, except that I have always done everything in one session. The WEIRDEST thing is what happened next. I was getting depressed (it took me hours to do the cutting, and I might have to do it again; repetition is hell), but thought I would just see what happens when I export the file. Amazingly, the exported file looks as it should! All the cuts, fades, whatever, are there, and audio & video are in sync, as they should! The only problem with that file now is that I have about one third of it still uncut, so I will use this exported video and make the cuts on that one in a new project. The original project is messed up and useless. I didn't know how else to make a bug report, but I thought this is the sort of things you should know about, so here I am. I don't know what else I can tell you, or if anyone can even begin to explain to me what happened to my project, but maybe I'll be surprised. borate
First of all, update to this release. If it doesn't solve the sync issue, come back here for further help. Nothing should be lost, as your work was saved. The original should now load correctly. Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.
jvilkka
Thanks! I updated the program. Didn't try the same file again, but I did leave another project (a much shorter one, but still) halfway through, and was able to continue it later normally. Tina L
I was having similar issue with 16.09. Upgraded to 16.14 and now is OK but I think I am outside of the free update window. Last paid upgrade was Oct-2023. Is my license still OK? Now another issue with 16.14: I apply a transition but the transition is only applied to one side of the cut!!
borate
You're probably good with 16.14, but if not it will prompt. There's no mandate to update. Your version won't stop working. Transition issues are often the result of an unintended gap between cuts. Go to Storyboard mode (if the transition is on track 1) and look for a gap. If found, right-click on it and Close Gap. If that doesn't take care of it, come back here.
Tina L
There was no gap but now more detail.: I applied a 2s cross fade and watching the frames found that it was applied properly but the bar showing the effect was only on the first clip. It appears to be a display update issue. If I grab the edge of the transition bar and move it any amount, then it all syncs up again. I am able to reproduce this bug every time. borate
Let's take a look, so it can be analyzed. Please share the project by following these four simple steps closely... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. Get link --- Get a public link. Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" Share --- Click COPY LINK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me. It won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
Tina L
That is a problem for this one since some of the videos have proprietary information in them that I am cutting out. Big trouble if I let them out of my control. When I get to a break point, I will find two of these clips that are OK to distribute and make a separate project I can send but: I doubt you will see anything in the analysis because the video is fine, the issue is how it is displayed. borate
Please install this 64-bit release. If a bug can be confirmed, developers will want to know. After saving the project, delete all but the portion with the issue. Then follow the instructions. Any content sent to me via Personal Messenger will not be shared - except perhaps with them should a bug be verified. Click the envelope at the top-right of this forum and send to "borate." Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves. Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite. From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.
Tina L
What I did Created project, added two videos Add cross fade transition and it only showed over 1st clip Saved file then closed and reopened file and still only showed over 1st clip Backed up file to folder: 2024-05-05 15-40-17 Opened the original file (not the backup) then moved the bar showing the transition 0.01 seconds Now the [not enough room] popup was displayed. It did not popup when the transition was 1st applied. I selected [Yes] and now the transition bar overlaps both clips. borate
Thanks for sharing. The issue is evident in the project that you linked, but not when it's created here - tested in various VP releases. Download from this link, (ignore warnings), unzip and run the VPJ. Don't believe that this is a bug as it cannot be reproduced here. Please see if the problem is still evident after installing the release linked above and reconstructing the two-clip project.
