opening DNG files from a monochrome camera

I recently acquired a Pentax K-3 Mark III Monochrome digital SLR.  When I try to open the DNG files from that camera in PhotoPad Editor, the image has the right half cropped out, and the remaining part of the image is compressed vertically and then doubled side-by-side.  When these files are opened in Microsoft's Photos app, they display normally.

I have a Pentax K-1 camera (color), and DNG files from that camera open and can be edited normally in PhotoPad Editor.
