Express Burn Static

I had to split a radio file into two parts at about 55 minutes each, to fit onto a regular CD, but when I made the burns, the copies had static on them. What causes this, the splitting process? And what can I do about it? Is there any way to avoid splitting and make a burn that will just go to the end and stop, and put any leftover tracks onto another disc? Thanks!
