Burning a data DVD

Yesterday I purchased ExpressBurn v 4.01. My operating system is Windows XP. My computer is a Sony VAIO, PCV-RS720G, and my DVD-RW/CD-RW, drive D, is SONY DVD DW-D22A. I also have a DVD-ROM, drive E, HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B if that makes any difference.

I can burn CDs, but I have not been able to successfully burn a DVD. I'm primarily interested in burning data DVDs. When I try to burn files onto a blank DVD-R or DVD+RW, after I've added files to be copied and hit the Burn DVD button, a window flashes quickly saying something about "scanning available drives" (I think), and then I get a window with the menu to name the disk and select the drive and speed, etc. The DVD drive is correctly identified, and I've tried both the max write speed and the 4X. After I click the OK button on this menu, nothing happens.

Thanks for any help you can give. Robert Osborne
