inoten
Web page http://www.nch.com.au/acm/formats.html sais that WavePad supports GSM files. Does it follow the standards of Microsoft GSM 6.10 CODEC or some other GSM? I see that wav files can be encoded with GSM6.10, but wanted to make sure that the "raw" files follow the same codec. Thanks, Inna.
nchtj
GSM is not a Microsoft codec, it is a European Telecommunications Standard (ETS) codec. The .wav gsm codec follows the same standard as the .gsm codec.
Guest Guest
I kept playing with Wavepad and it seems that it uses different GSM codec flavors for recording/saving raw .gsm and for gsm encoded .wav files. I have a tool that can play MS GSM wav files. It can play GSM .wav files recorded with Wavepad. However, it cannot play the raw .gsm files recorded with the Wavepad (I first add a wav header specifying MS GSM format, then play the wav file with my tool). Maybe it's not intentional to use different GSM codecs for raw and wav files, but that's what it looks like. Or maybe it depends on what GSM coded is installed on your computer? Thanks for clarifying what GSM codec is used for raw files.
nchtj
hmm, certainly interesting what you are saying, although I am not sure a standard copy and paste of the wave header will work (it might in theory). I can tell you our GSM 6.10 encoder is based on the European Telecommunications Standard ETS300961. What the .wav GSM 6.10 codec is based on I don't know, but they are both GSM 6.10 encoders.
