Foot pedal worked on old computer, and now doesn't

I am so confused!! My foot pedal, on loan from my boss (and I have no idea what kind it is), used to work fine with ExpressScribe on my old computer. I now have a new computer and downloaded ExpressScribe with no problem, and I have done the setup wizard using COM 1, which is the port my pedal is plugged into, and I've gone through the setup 15 times!! I can't get the play pedal to PLAY! One time it will fast forward and so will the FF pedal. Another time it will rewind and so will the rewind pedal. And somtimes the FF and rewind get reversed, even though I'm setting it up correctly and following the directions to the letter every time. I set up this pedal using COM 1 on my old computer with no problem. What do I do now? Is this pedal not going to be compatible with my new computer or what?! Help!!!
