open versus save of .wma file

I have many MTs using Express Scribe versions older than 4.09; however, I have two who have recently downloaded and begun using 4.09. They are unable to simply open the .wma audio file and play, but must instead save it to a folder on their local computer and play it from there. My assumption is that this is a Windows setting? If so what am I missing? I've helped install older versions hundreds of times without encountering this problem, so I'm a little stumped.
