"Basic Effects" applied during audio file conversion?

I was wondering if anyone knew what the "basics effects" are that are applied when converting m4b files to mp3 files?  When the program starts the conversion, a splash screen pops up stating "Applying Effects" in bold letters, with "Applying Basic Effects" underneath.  It appears that as part of converting the audio file's format, the program also applies some "basic effects" to the audio, but I am having issues locating a description of the changes made (e.g., normalization, gain, etc.).  Any description of the effects applied would be greatly appreciated (and apologies if this has been addressed already . . . I am having problems locating it in the forums).
