First time problems buffering

Hi

 

please help. I was so happy when I downloaded mixpad an dwavepad and other related software to experiment with voice tracks etc... thgoguht it was ideal for me but... got mic set up and spoke into it and on playing back it 'buffers' or lurches / jumps (just as tracks do when streaming and not fully downloaded on internet. I cleared extra memory on my pc as thought that would help but hasn't and it's obviously not a volume /level problem as tried low levels too... is it simply a case of I need a more up to date pc? Using Windows 98 though very updated version that gets most stuff on it ok including vids and CD's.
