How To set up 8 mono channels with Behringer UMC 1820

For any channel in the UMC1820 I can select 1 of 4 stereo channels (1+2, 3+4, 5+6, 7+8) which is fine if I want stereo.

BUT, I can't select a single Mono channel (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) to any Mixpad channel.

There is a recording device option "IN 1-8"  selectable for each channel but applying this to several channels doesn't connect each channel to a separate mono input.

In contrast  for example, if I use Audacity, selecting "IN 1-8" automatically displays 8 channels, each allocated to a physical mono channel.

Am I missing something?
