Cannot convert from avi to mpeg2

I have been trying to convert a video from avi to mpeg2 for hours to no avail. I open Prism, click add folder and select the video I want to convert, choose output location, go to format drop down ans select mpg  I  then click on file options and notice mpeg2 in upper right of box. W hen I click on convert itgoes through the process but the output is mpg not mpeg2. What did I do wrong. Please help.

First of all, you need to make sure you have purchased a license for the "Plus MPEG2 Edition" and have registered the program since the "Plus Edition" does not support video file formats MPEG2. Then, .mpg format is the extension of the file, MPEG2 is the video compressor, so when you convert it (even if you use MPEG2), the extension if the file will be .mpg, the difference will be in the way the video is compressed.
