Unable to edit mp3 tracks in excess of 1hr 42min

I have tried several ways to edit MP3 files of 2hours+ in length. Each different attempt to edit in the region more than 1hr 42min, initiates the start of the track, altho just playing in normal mode, the track plays correctly. It seems to make little differenc the size of the file only the lengthSince i am trying to edit lectures into separate tracks this make the remainder of the track uneditable. The only work around, is to copy the second half of the track to a new file and edit. This defeats the purpose and is cumbersome and time consuming. As i have purchased Wavepad masters along with other burning software, after trialing the software, this limitation seems to be quite a deficiency. Please supply answers.
