I can't change the time signature

I am brand new to this program, though it looks promising. I am using an Alesis Multimix8 as an audio interface. I want to record with a "click track", which I'm guessing I can do with the metronome. However, even though you can change the time signature, there is in emphasis on the main beat. And the grid lines don't match up. They DO seem to go along with the 4 4 time, nothing changes when I go into 3 4.

 

I would like to be able to use the grid lines to match up clips for editing. It does not seem that I can do that with Mixpad. Please someone tell me I am wrong...
