Can't save MP3 files

I have MP3 files converted from WAV format by CD-EX. Wavepad won't save these files & Switch won't convert them.

The CD-EX files are valid MP3 files since I can copy them to CD's & play them on a standalone CD player.

Wavepad gives an error window saying "unable to create file...for saving"

Switch gives an error window saying "Conversion of file....has failed".

Has anybody got ideas to fix this?
