Scart VCR problem

Hi I've used this program to record from my sony camcorder, no problems. But when I connect my philips vr740 vcr it doesn't work. It only has scart out (uk pal and I use a cheap convertor that came with the xbox, so that plugs in and then use a standard video cable (single phono) to plug into my usb capture device (Easycap)

 

But I've also found that I can't use the convertor on the tv either, although scart works, which means it must be something to do with the scart output as I have tried 2 different convertors.

 

So basically, any ideas please?
