Express Burn won't read mpg file when I click "Play"

I created a .mpg movie using NCH's VideoPad editor, but Express Burn wouldn't read the movie when I clicked "Play".

 

The solution turned out to be to click "File", then click "Options", then select the box "Use FFMPEG first".

 

Reading through the Forum, the "Use FFMPEG first" option seems to solve so many Express Burn problems that I believe it ought to be the default option for the program; or at least the program should come with a "read me" that says every user should select the "Use FFMPEG first" at the first sign of any difficulty, and that should appear in the FAQ and should be highlighted.

 

I feel that I shouldn't have had to search so much to become aware of the value of selecting "Use FFMPEG first".
