Encoding problem converting .wav files from stereo to mono

I'm using the current trial version of Switch Plus. When I convert CDA derived stereo (2 channel) to mono (1 channel) .wav files, retaining all other parameters - (i.e 16 bit, 44.1khz), the resulting file is encoded to a slower speed instead of maintaining the correct speed. The files size remains the same instead of reducing it.

I can't see any interface options to correct this. Any help very welcome.
