Dialing but not connecting

I am new to Express Talk. I have downloaded the express free version for an XP machine and then for a Vista machine. On both machines, I here the line dialing but it is NOT ringing the phone I am calling. I installed the same version on another XP machine and it is working. In other words, I hear the line dialing and it successfully connects to my calling party and I am able to talk with them. As far as I know, I have set up the software in the same way on all the machines. So I don't know what is wrong. Please can someone help!

Thanks,

Jeff

Well firstly make sure you don't have 2 PCs running the software at the same time with the same VoIP/SIP account. This can lead to problems/confusion with authentication and cause unexpected behaviour such as rejected calls.

However the problem could also be related to your network configuration. If Express Talk is not able to properly signal to the VoIP server that it wants to make an outbound call, Express Talk may be stuck trying to negotiate with the server leading to what seems to be a call to nowhere. Be sure to open the appropriate ports on your PC and router's firewall(s) and then run the 'Network Setup Wizard' in Express Talk.

The last possible cause (and I know people don't like to hear this) is human error, whereby a simple mistake such as the way the number was dialled leads to a pre-mature assumption that the problem is related to the software (although this probably isn't the case here).

Hi Pythonpoole,

Thanks for the reply. All of the PCs are using the same internet line. So that is not a problem. I am using two different SIP accounts. Also, the Network Setup Wizard runs successfully on the PCs not completing the call. The only difference is the OSes. The working system is XP Professional and the other non working systems our XP Home and Vista. Here are the active connections/ports on the XP Home pc after running the Network Setup Wizard:

Although I am using the free version, I have no problem purchasing the support contract to get this working. I thought my problem was simple to fix since I was able to get the first pc up and running with Express Talk without any problems. What do you suggest?

Thanks,

Jeff
