WAV File size doesn't change after edit

Hi,

I had a 156 mb WAV file, created in the FM recording mode of the Creative N200, which ran almost 2 hours. WavePad efficiently took an 8 minute section out of the middle, and trimmed off the last hour, leaving a file that ran about 45 minutes. I thought WavePad handled this simple task very well. I saved the file, overwriting the existing file.

 

Why is the saved file the same size, 156 mb, as the original file?

I want to make wave files smaller, as well. I would like to decrease the quality of the file so it is smaller - as I am trying to put it in a PowerPoint show to send. Does anyone have any suggestions? (I'm a guest: gaynel13@gmail.com)
