I, also, had issues with the Fade In feature. It seemed to be applying the Fade Out effect to the selected section.

I tried to replicate the view settings that nchBen used in his example, just in case it made a difference.
So, I tweaked some of the settings in the View menu. Added the dB markers, toggled the Left up Right down option (newbie, don't know what that does), etc.
After doing the View tweaking, for reasons unknown to me, the Fade In started actually fading in.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
