You are doing nothing wrong.  I'll wager that your file - apparently using the hvc1 codec - is not supported for lossless editing.  Someone may drop in here to confirm.

That's a good point. I've only turned hvc1 on recently but none of my old files work either, nor do my sisters nexus 5x mp4s which are avc I'd assume

Tested several other 30fps files, of varying resolutions and bit rates.

They succeeded as lossless exports, so other factors are apparently in play here.

Someone with better insight may chip in.

Here's a sample clip from my Pixel 3 shooting 1080p 30.06fps (sorry it's in portrait only one I have to hand) https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Clid5gk6tmZuWvqwwih7ZBdcLJSejfEs

I've tried joining this with itself say 3 times or editing out one second of video and I still can't get lossless export, it always transcodes despite trying every setting I can think of, uninstalling, resetting, etc. What am I doing wrong?

  3. Yes I have. However, I'm still getting a whole lot of re-encoding happening. For example, I take two 10 second clips on my pixel 3 at 1080p 30fps, drop them into VideoPad, put them on the timeline next to each other, and export as lossless - the whole clip is now transcoded.

What exactly am I supposed to do to get it working losslessly?

  4. Hi,

Years ago I was asking about proper lossless mp4 and m2ts support for export in original formats.

Now I see it supports lossless export in other formats, but still I am unable to simply edit together/cut two mp4 files from a Pixel 3 phone and save/export them losslessly without re-encoding, which isnt lossless.

Will true lossless support ever happen?

  5. I had exactly this issue, which was resolved on a different computer, and actually works on my problematic pc too. Have oyu tried the latest version (assume yes) and have you been sent a debugging version? I had great support from the NCH team, and after emailing logs over the issue seemed to fix. Checked out my threads on this? TBH without a log it's difficult to help

I'm not tech savvy I just wanna be able to export videos without it failing and it appears that is an issue they have had for far too long. Sounds like to me they should fire their whole staff and just hire you.

I'm pretty tech savvy, but their team is awesome. Support via email for me has been fantastic, no doubt they know what they're doing. It's just a shame that with these few kinks to iron out they're missing out on leading the market and killing..offering.

I see you're on a mac; I don't have one, but for me the issue went by using a different computer. You could try installing Parallels or something and run Windows, this could work. Or another machine? Which version are you on? 5.03 I think worked for me, once, but not losslessly.

If you can get hold of one of the staff members they may be able to send you a logging/debugging version which will show what#s happening when it fails.

Finally, ffmpeg is the open standard for video editing codec-wise, and it does lossless cutting/joining - via command line or if you can find an app with an interface - something to look in to?

I'm downloading...free trial right now to see if that goes better.

It's a colossal pile of cr@p, I found. I tried opencut, shotcut, so many get so close; there's several free utils which can losslessly join and cut mp4 files but no 'suite' like Videopad for doing a project or something with more than one clip at a time. I just don't see how the nch team haven't/can't implement this so easily. You can literally get it to work with 'copy /b *.mp4 out.mp4' then just find it though a fixer like mkvtoolnix

If you find a bug and report to us we'll provide free license for the release that has the bug fixed.

If you upload your project files on a file sharing server, PM me I'll try to export it for you - for this time only.

Would that license apply to the exporting mp4 fails I've reported, or the lossless mp4 exporting for me? :)

anyone know a good program I can pay for instead of Videopad? I'm looking for one that WILL export my videos.

Would like to know, too. I've tried sooo many apps, surely there's a market for home users wanting to simply cut and join losslessly mp4 files from smartphones?

  10. Great, thanks so much again! Killer app once this is fixed :) - I've literally spent days looking into this, tried nearly 20 programs, and none do this!

In order to export lossless, following conditions must applied:

    • Input and output codec must be H.264 and with same codec settings.
    • Output frame rate and resolution must be the same as input.
    • Timeline section where effects are applied can not be lossless.
    • Timeline section where transitions are applied can not be lossless.
    • Timeline section where contains more than one tracks can not be lossless.

We are doing a rework on this feature in order to avoid the confusion.

Again, thanks! Clip meets all conditions, I've tried adding the same clip in twice, even just once in it's own, and it's h264 as per sample uploaded, but it still exports lossy :/

At the moment VideoPad only supports non-destructive editing for H.264 codec with Enable lossless video exporting option turned on.

We are continuously working on it to improve it and adding support to more codecs.

Great! Well I tried editing/exporting losslesspy with it enabled and on these files, which are h264 (avc is h264) but no luck. Am I doing it wrong or is this h264 file not supported?
