  1. Good morning, I recently installed Wavepad to use in processing files generated by an Olympus WS-100 recorder. Loading the files from the recorder to WavePad was no problem but saving them to my HD caused endless problems. I tried all the variations of options that I could think of with no success and the whole process was getting to be quite annoying. At first I thought that there must be some kind of IMPEDE_COPY flag somewhere that was interfering but that just didn't seem reasonable. After several days (yes, days) of messing around I discovered by accident that the problem arose because one directory in the fully-qualified path to the folder where the files were to be stored included a special character in the directory name. Specifically an 'a' with a macron (or accent mark, if your prefer) over it. If I move the .wav file to a 'clean' (no special chars) directory or the desktop, WavePad has no difficulty in saving or opening the file. But if the file is in a folder that has a special character anywhere in the fully-qualified name WavePad will not save it or open it. And further, it gives no indication of what the problem is other than saying it can't do it. Given the pervasive use of UniCode characters these days and the fact that MS XP allows their use in folder names, it might be a good idea to look at the code that drives file management and update it so that it can correctly interpret UniCode. It will save people a lot of headaches -- I can't be the first person to stumble into this problem. Kei te tumanako awhina ahau tenei whakaaro! Ma te wa, e hoa ma! Rahara
