  1. Something strange with multiple versions. In Control Panel->Programs and Features I see two versions  of VideoPad, 13.61 and 13.67. The latter is the one I am using (as per Help->About). So naturally I try to uninstall version 13.61, but this then says it will be uninstalling 13.67, see screenshot at https://imgbox.com/hyCDAaCz

When I run "Add or remove programs" (without the Control Panel) it lists only VideoPad 13.67.

There is probably a simple explanation and remedy for this, but I found it rather confusing.

Yep. Although it is difficult to appreciate the faults of a software, especially one that really serves our purpose, figuring out the workarounds to serve our goal is what we must do. Sorry if I came across wrong-headed in my reply. I suppose dragging each file independently, although not ideal or expedient (but honestly how I operate often) and in order would accomplish the task properly.?

Yes that could be an option. Though just using File->Open works fine and I can live with that. I suppose we can blame Windows for this. Given that WavePad displays the files in the order they come in as support stated, which is a valid choice if maybe not the best, I think it's Windows that shuffles them around in a drag and drop operation (because they are sorted correctly in Windows explorer, and were selected in that order). I seem to remember seeing that before in a different scenario. Apparently it's up to programs to deal with that as they see fit. TBH it would have been easy to say "sure, you have a point, we'll put in these extra few lines of code to sort the tabs".

BTW I perceived nothing wrong-headed in your reply. If anything, it was helpful.

Gotcha. That does seem odd and annoying!

It sure threw me the first time I dropped and dozen or so files, and was having a ball navigating between them. To make it worse, you cannot drag the tabs around like you can in a browser. Support did not seem to acknowledge the simple wish to sort the files like other programs do. Oh well, it's not a big deal and I'm now used to using File->Open which works correctly.

I try to keep myself from replying hereabouts for various reasons - usually because I assume the issues folks are experiencing are with a later version of the software than I utilize. But I do read through most posts in case there is something either that I can learn, or someway in my experience with the software I can help another user.

So, my first question would be as to how the files that your are dragging as a group are labeled in the first place. Common sense for me (in my workflow) is dependent on a numerical ordering, as opposed to a (random) alphabetical one. YMMV.

Thanks for your reaction. Please see this screenshot http://home.caiway.nl/~cbreemer/wavepad.jpg

  5. Hi all,
When I drag and drop a selection files onto Wavepad, all files are opened in tabs but the tabs appear to be unsorted, or else sorted in a non-intuitive way, making it cumbersome to move between files. It seems like common sense that the program would take the trouble to alphabetically sort the tabs, right ? Anyone else having an issue with this ? Should I report a bug or improvement suggestion ?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  6. Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience replacing CoolEdit with WavePad. I'm generally happy with WavePad but one thing stumps me. Cooledit (a very old copy which I've been using for 15 years or so) has a number of parameters and presets for Reverb. I had always used the Concert Hall Light preset, which gave a very pleasant ambiance to my recordings.

Coming to WavePad, I see a set of very different reverb parameters,  and there are only 4 presets, none of them sounding anywhere near like I want. Ideally I'd like to create a custom preset and tweak it so sound like the one I was used to. But there does not seem to be an option to create a preset. And moreover, I have no idea how to translate the Cooledit parameters to Wavepad parameters. So presently I use WavePad for editing and then Cooledit for reverb. Not ideal.

Anyone been there and done that ?
    Cheers,

    Chris

  7. Had a bit of a scare yesterday. I'd created a video using 13.66 and when I played the video in VLC, the audio came out normally but the video would mostly freeze in a random frame. Every now and then a new frame would appear, but not very often. Even the most basic video, with just one mp4 and no editing at all would behave the same. Strangely, I thought I had already created a video last week with this same version (though I could be mistaken) and it had no problems at all. Luckily upgrading to 13.67 fixed it. Phew.... I am very relieved.
Does the problem ring a bell to anyone ?

  8. That's the same version as the first link you posted !

Anyway, I'm mighty pleased the new version seems to fix the problem, and is better in at least one other way. The prospect of having to recreate the project and redoing all the editing work did not appeal to me at all. Thanks again 👍

  9. Thanks borate, that version is looking good ! Seems to load and run the project without any glitches. And it also fixes one of my biggest gripes, i.e. that the waveforms were so small especially from the audio tracks. I don't really want to try one of the older releases now. Seeing as I was lagging so far behind I guess I'd be better off upgrading my license to this version. For how long will this one be fully featured ?

  10. Hi all,
I tried to log a support case for this but got this error

    This site can’t be reached

The webpage at https://secure.nch.com.au/cgi-bin/c.exe might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.

    ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR

so I will try it here.

    Hi,
I've suddenly hit an enormously frustrating problem with VideoPad. I have a large project which will ultimately consist of 24 mp4 files and 24 wav files. I had it about 2/3 ready (some 16 files yet to be created) and then I switched to a new computer with a newer Windows version (Windows 11 rather than Windows 10). Installed the same version (10.64) of VideoPad on the new system, transfered all the files and then tried to load the project. Rather than loading fully, it went unresponsive, and hung up my system in such a way that I could not reboot or even use the power button, I had to disconnect the power cable to get it to shutdown. When I tried it again the project was seemingly loaded, but the video content of the mp4 files was not being shown (neither in the thumbnails and on the timeline). I won't be able to complete my project this way. Please advise ! If you need any more information, please let me know.
    Regards,

EDIT--- Resubmitted the support request and now it worked 🙂

  11. I hope this is not too daft a question, but does the computer's video card have any influence on the quality of the videos I create ? The other day I removed my ATI video card because it was giving me problems, so now I'm running with the on-board Intel video graphics. Looks to work fine for me, but I'm just a little apprehensive about possible effects on VideoPad.

  12. I had quite a bad scare yesterday evening. I'd started a new video project, and just after adding some media to the timeline VideoPad crunched to a near halt. Computer fan spinning loudly, VideoPad almost constantly "Not responding", sequence not showing properly, and all but impossible to do anything at all. Tried rebooting and recreating the project from scratch, and other things, all to no avail. I was really fearing that either VideoPad was suddenly borked or my PC was infected by a crippling virus - or maybe both. After a frustrating hour or so of fumbling, it dawned on me what the problem was. The still image I had on the timeline was too big. I mean ridiculously big, some 20000 by 10000 pixels, being a combination of two hi-res color scans. After I had resized that to 2000x1000 pixels all was well again. Phew.... 🙄

I don't know if there is a maximum image size in Text Pad ? If so, would it not be nice if VideoPad gave me an error message instead of going completely haywire and scaring the bejesus out of me ?

  13. Sometimes while editing, the audio in a mp4 accidentally gets unlinked from the video. I don't know why and how that happened, I never clicked on the 'Unlink from video' option and it does not seem to have a keyboard shortcut that I could accidentally have typed. It could be a bug for all I know. It's a pain in the bottom because I don't notice until audio and video get visibly out of sync, and by then it's hard to correct. Is there a way to prevent the audio from being unlinked ? It's something I absolutely never want to happen.

  14. Hmmmm, disappointing that there is still no option to zoom in on the wave forms, and that the biggest part of the lower screen seems to be exclusively reserved for the hugely oversized drag and drop area.

The Normalize option does not do anything for me. I don't know what 'normalizing' is supposed to do here, but I guess my input already has a normal level (it goes straight from the digital piano to USB). I don't want to increase the gain on the piano because then my recordings from now on will be much louder than the ones before ( I use only the external audio for the final video).

The Sync Audio option is no alternative. I actually need to edit the video track to be in sync with the external audio track. If I just need to sync them, one simple mouse drag is all it takes. This option seems quite superfluous to me, was it something that users have asked for ? If yes, could enlarging the WAV not also be considered ?

  15. Aha, Clip Classification ! I had not noticed that. Turns out that Blue is for Music, Green is for Voice.

Now why VideoPad classifies some of my piano only WAV's as "Voice" is quite beyond me. I can't quite see the point of this feature actually. But I'm glad the mystery is solved, thanks for that.

  16. I got no insight whatsoever. Same information shown, also in the Properties. All audio files are WAV, created by the same audio editor in exactly the same way.

Ah well, a little color diversity brightens up things a bit 😀
