    I continue to hit this problem but have developed a workaround that has worked so far.

    During Project A I inserted Video B at 1:32-1:42 and Video C at 1:53-2:01.  Upon Exporting, there was freeze from 1:43 until 1:53 (the frame AFTER Video B finished was frozen lasting until Video C started).  I replace Video B with Video D for the exact same amount of time in the same spot and got the same freeze.

    Workaround -

    I cut Video B/D out of the Sequence (but left them in the Project) and exported with only Video C (which worked fine the whole time).

    I then renamed my project to "Project A Final" and saved it as a new project.

    I added a new Sequence and brought in the video of "Project A" and placed it into Sequence 2.  I then put Video B back on Sequence 2 where I wanted it on Project A Final, Exported Sequence 2, and <drum roll> it worked!  No more freezes!!

    Now here's the part that bothers me the most Videos A, B, C, D were either shot with the same camera at the same rates and exposure OR were a screen capture of a PowerPoint Presentation using NCH's Debut software.  In other words, I kept thinking the root of the problem had to be because I was mixing and matching from other sources but my sources are all the same. I was convinced it was something about mp4 vs. avi or incompatible frame rates or something.  But none of those things seem true now.  Messing with frame rates, output type, encoder values, etc. never got me where I wanted to go and quite frankly, got pretty old!

    To me, here's the BIG QUESTION:  Why would Video C work no matter what I did but Vidoes B and D did not work no matter how much I tinkered with the settings?  It makes no sense to me and obviously is going to be very tough to debug.  To be clear...ALL Video A is an output of Debut with some "live shots" from Video B and C now cut into it.  However, C is cut into the original and B is cut into the output of the original project as a new Sequence/Project.

    Developers:  I know you want to get your hands on my videos to see if you can replicate this.  Unfortunately, these are not videos that I can share.  However, now that I know what I'm looking for, I think I can recreate the same circumstances in a less than 3 minute video and put the project/video files in a Dropbox for you.  However, it might be a week or more before my schedule will allow me to do that (business travel, etc.)  If I can get to sooner than that I will.  I know I've been hard on you in earlier posts but I have a lot more sympathy now that I see how odd and illogical the problem is.  After 30 years in the IT industry, I can bet this is going to turn out to be some minor change that that no one ever considered possibly impacting ANYTHING.

    What smells really fishy to me is that several of us started complaining MONTHS after v5.01 was released.  Which makes me think that whatever has triggered this came to us later in the form of Microsoft update or something like that.

    (Oh BTW - The computer I'm using to do the work is a Dual Core i7, 16GB memory, Geoforce GTX, <insert male grunting noise here> etc.  So it's not the hardware slowing anything down or fighting for some system resource - All work (project files and Exported files) is done on an external drive with all caching on the C: drive -   That's not to say this isn't hardware related - can't eliminate it yet, I'm just saying, there's not an obvious answer there either).

  2. To the Developers:

    LOOK, something is wrong.  Clearly.

    You have multiple people all talking about the same thing... just look at the titles of the last 25-50 posts in this forum.  After render we're getting either frozen or blank or combination of things.

    How many people will have to complain?  Are you telling us that it's all on us to PROVE to you this is happening?  If it's different on your system but we're having an issue then that's still not on us.

    I just took a WORKING video combined from two other videos.  I did nothing to it but change the entire 5 min video to cartoon.  Sure enough, it gets to the first edit and boom...frozen.  If this is a frame rate issue, then you should be able to provide quick guidance for a work around.  I'm not going to spend the next few hours playing with all the frame rates vs. quality to determine what might work.

    PLEASE Quit making us jump through hoops and let's get serious about this.

    Given how little the software is updated these days and the consistent low quality of the recent updates, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is beginning to wonder what your competitors are doing.  I've been using VideoPad Pro for nearly 3 years and I loved it.  But my frustration is starting to overtake my loyalty.  I don't want to change but I'm tired of spending hours on the edit only to blow up on the render.  Really tired of it.

    Please change the tone and approach to your Forum response and let's get back to the glory days when VideoPad kicked the competitors butts on quality, price, value AND features.

  3. I just logged in here to discuss EXACTLY the same thing.  This does not appear to be a frame rate issue

    The only "interesting" thing I've done on this video is take two videos that were already together and chopped them up to rearrange them.

    I also added a "split screen" for about 30 seconds comparing the two.

    I do have one portion of one video now playing in reverse slow motion...again though, that should NOT be causing this error.

     

    The only solution I see is to render the video.... then go back and cut and paste the "broken" sections from the original materials and the render again.

     

    It will work but that will add several hours to the project.

  4. I very much appreciate your patience and walk through this step-by-step. Sadly, you confirmed that what I'm doing now is as close as I'm going to get to the old functionality. This "upgrade" is, as you very aptly stated, "clumsy." I find myself constantly "peeking" over the effect window, rearranging/resizing windows, etc. Does it work? Well, yes in the strictest sense, I can make it all "work." But I do a LOT of effects editing and what was a strong aspect of VP is now one of its weakest.

     

    Perhaps this is all personal preference and I'm the only one disappointed with the change. (I doubt I'm the ONLY one - but ya never know).

     

    I greatly preferred clicking on "effect"...having the whole clip right there, studying it as I applied the effect and when finally satisfied applying my changes (or not).

     

    In looking at competing products, VP has it all over many others in so many ways especially when it comes to an intuitive editor that responds the way you anticipate without much study. The change made to the effects editor goes the wrong direction. If there are many others who feel we've lost something with the "upgrade", please speak up. I would never expect the developers to make a change based on a single cry in the wilderness.

     

    OTOH, if it's just me, I guess I'll just have to get over it. (I've been in the IT industry for 30 years so I have a reasonable expectation).

    Click the SEQUENCE tab to see it... preview.jpgOr click the VIEW menu in the toolbar and "show dual previews."

     

    OK... the above did not work...this is becoming a show-stopper for me. I'm already starting to investigate some competitors. I REALLY need this function back. It makes no sense that it's gone. How much longer until it is restored????

  6. Strangely enough, I have nearly the same computer (mine has a few more HP but in the same league) and the same problem. I was excited to see 4.08 show up to see if it might be resolved.

    My work around up until now was to drop the FPS to a small number (10) and then render - increase FPS - watch - repeat until I found a balance of "non-freeze" + "watchability"

    Unfortunately the problem seems to be the same.

     

    (to be more specific, I am not doing subtitles but am using multiple transparencies to create a strobe effect)

    I also have an nvidia card...given that our systems are so similar I'll not post the entire DxDiag but am hoping you're going to spot something missing or not to the right rev. (HP Diag says everything is up to date)

     

    As you can see I have no shortage of CPU, video power or memory...so the choppy halting rendered video is really frustrating
