  1. hi, wavpack, like flac, is a lossless compression scheme. i had wanted to edit it. i have tried the program with mp3 files, and that works fine. but i dont want to do my editing on a converted (lossy) file, because then i cant go back to my archive without having to re-edit it, which is the whole purpose of archiving the files, to begin with. if i rip to wav first, i could do my editing. and then archive to wavpack or flac. however, i have been told that ripping to wav, i would lose all my tags. can any of the conversion programs look up freedb on a wav file, while it is archiving it to a lossless format ? i currently use eac to do my ripping from a cd, and i dont want to change that, because it seems to be what everyone considers to be the most accurate program to retrieve info correctly from the cd. but i dont think eac does conversions from one format to another, just from a cd to a format. or is there an editing program, that can edit either flac or wavpack lossless files ? this would be my first choice. so ideally, i want to archive my songs in a lossless format. edit them, because whatever i edit out, i dont ever want to go back to. usually this is just stuff at the beginning or end of the song, that is not part of the melody, and just drags it on longer than i would prefer. then i would have an archive that is lossless, but edited for stuff that i dont want to keep. thanks for your reply.
  2. hi, i could not get wavepad to open up a wavpack file. when i went to options, i could not find wv as being supported, so i guess wavpack is not supported ? but i did see .flac. and i am having the same problem. it displays a screen, but only for a millisecond, so i cant see what is on it. i also can not bring up the sample flac file that was placed on the site. i saw somewhere to download the flacdec file, which i did. it is now sitting in the wavepad directory, along with app, app.gid, uninst, and wavepad. what else do i need to do ? is there some flag that i still need to set somewhere ? thanks.
