Thanks for your help. These are aac files that have been ripped from the winamp plugin called streamripper. These are aac files in the clear and nothing protected. I just want them to be used in itunes without converting them to wav and then back to m4a (in itunes).

When I run switch to convert an aac file to an m4a file I get a cryptic message that the conversion failed and to check the forums. I installed aacenc and aacdec and it still happens? What's the deal with the useless error messages? Thanks Fred
