  1. Just as a general guideline, you can never run a program that has a User Interface as a Service. Service applications have no windows & when the app tries to open a window, the app will freeze at that point. This is true for any app, not just IVM. It's a Windows thing. As long as IVM never shows a window, then technically you can get away w/ it, but as you noticed that you can't shut it down via the Control Panel... that's because IVM is probably prompting you w/ the "Do you want IVM to run in the background" YES|NO|MAYBE prompt, which causes it to freeze.
  2. Hi, thanks for the reply! I'm using Vonage as my provider, which is technically voip, but as far as my phone is concerned it's a regular line. I've got the phone line IN to my modem & from there the OUT line goes to my phone. My guess is this kind of setup means IVM can't detect that I've picked up the phone since my phone is on the output side of things as far as my PC/IVM is concerned. Is this about right? I'm not really familiar with telephone switches, & Axom looks a bit like overkill for my setup. I only have the 1 line & won't need to transfer calls w/in the office, etc....
  3. I've got IVM set to answer after 2 rings. When someone calls & I usually get it on the 2nd or 3rd ring. What's happening is that as soon as I say "Hello", or just after, my OGM starts playback & I sound like an idiot because I'm supposed to have a professional sounding business & here I am talking on top of my answering machine like some jackball. What I would like to be able to do as I'm answering the phone is to stop the Outgoing message playback once it's begun. Is this possible? Does anyone have a recommended # of rings that they've got IVM set to answer on? I'm thinking of just setting it to answer after 3 or 4 rings & if I don't get it by then, I'll just let it go to the OGM/voicemail. But what of those times when I know I'd like to answer the call even after the OGM has started? Closing the program seems like the only choice, but it takes too long as first I have to dismiss the screensaver/XP login screen, close the app, & then answer the prompt to leaving it running in the background..... basically that takes too long. Thanks for any help on this!
  4. I don't know much about the vonage softphone, but is it basically VoIP? Does any of the info you have from vonage look like it might fit in the VoIP settings in IVM?
  5. I removed the IBM text-to-voice app, uninstalled & reinstalled IVM & it seems to be working now. Although I no longer have the benefit of it hearing Stephen Hawking calculate the distance in light years between opposite sides of the universe whenever someone calls, I guess I'll make due.
  6. I've been experimenting in setting up my IVM for off & on for a week or so, and yesterday for the first time it has started to crash on me w/ Access Violations when answering calls. My IVM setup is pretty basic: WinXP w/ SP2, is current w/ all updates from Windows Update as of 2 weeks ago, A $50 Accura Hayes modem w/ latest drivers from website 1 phone line, Default OGM: Press 1 to go to another OGM where callers leave message for mailbox 2, Press 2 to transfer to my cell Do nothing to leave a message for mailbox 1 It's been crashing very reliably. I really like the software, but I can't risk having my phone system go down at any given moment due to a software crash while I'm away. I'm on Vonage, so I could always transfer to my cell after X rings, but that's not the ideal. How can I fix these problems? It didn't seem to happen until after I installed this program called "Communicate! Deluxe" that came on the Accura Hayes setup CD. I've removed it, but it's still crashing on occasion. This setup also installed an IBM text to speech engine that still seems to be on board even though I removed "Communicate! Deluxe". I need some help on this one.
  7. Hi, I've got Vonage as well, and I also want to transfer to my cell phone when they press 2. I just figured out how to transfer the call yesterday.... On Vonage, to transfer a call, you press flash, then #90, then the # you want to transfer to. In IVM, go to Settings->Transfer Settings, I forget what the label has on it, but in the edit box it will have "!," in it. Change that to "!,#90" for both Blind Transfer settings. In your OGM, set the key press action Detail to Blind Transfer & the your cell # it'll do the transfer. When it transfers your cell gets the caller ID of the caller. The drawback as far as I can tell is that you can't do a Confirmed Transfer when you do it this way. If you don't answer it, it'll go to your cell phone's voicemail.
  8. Hi all, I found this IVM software through the magic of a google search, and I'm wondering if perhaps it's really the thing I've been looking for. I'm setting up setup a home office w/ just a single phone line & I want to set up my PC to act as the phone system. I'd like to have a recorded welcome message, press 1 for this, press 2 for that, enter the extention if you know it, fwd calls to my cell, voicemail, & all that sort of thing as you'd expect if you were to call most any kind of business w/ a decent phone system. Is IVM that kind of software? Will I need to spring for the recommended CallURL Telephony card, or will IVM work ok if I buy a cheapo 56k fax/voice modem, such as this one from bestbuy.com: Dynex 56K V.92 PCI Internal Fax/ Voice/ Data Modem ? If I use this software will I be able to use my phone line as a fax line as well, and will these faxes appear in an email or somewhere in the IVM software as a file that I can fax or print? I'm currently using eFax.com & if I can stop using that & use something like this instead, that's what I'm looking to do. Thanks for any tips! -Wes San Diego
