  1. Hello,

    It is possible to get the each word starting times from wavepad?. For eg. consider "track1.mp3". This mp3 file contains the audio like "This is wavepad". Now what I want is, I need to capture the starting times of each word like below

    "this=2059"

    "is=4790"

    "wavepad=5040.5"

    If this is possible means how can I get this?.

    Expecting positive reply soon...

    Thanks...

  2. audacity isn't a competing product.

    but it does do something which wavepad doesn't do i.e. ampilfiy left and right channels individually.

    it may also do similar things to wavepad,but then again you could say windows media player competes with wavepad as it can play audio files.

    regards

    =======================================================

    So a sound editor does not compete with the sound editor WavePad if it possesses some particular feature that WavePad does not possess?

    This is sure an interesting definition of "competing."

    Sort of like "it depends upon what is meant by 'is'"!!

    Let me repeat: A private request will get you the information--privately.

    This discussion forum is maintained by NCH. Its purpose is the discussion of NCH products; it is not meant to be a forum for the discussion of the merits or demerits of competing products. This is a matter of ethical conduct, whether or not you like or dislike a particular NCH product or approve of the manner in which this company is running its business.

    This is the nature of this game down under (in the land of Oz, as it is commonly called here), or anywhere else, for that matter--like it or not. Apparently you do not. But this is your problem, not mine. Perhaps you should brush up on your cryptography :-)

  4. hi Ray,

    not in wavepad,no.

    audacity will do what you want for free (unless you use a program like adobe audition).

    private message sent with more details.

    =================================

    You seem to be missing a SUPERB (also very cheap shareware) program which will do this and much, much, much, much, much, much, much (ad infinitum) more. Far, far, far, far (ad infinitum) better than audacity. Take it from one (guess who?)who knows. Could it be that you are unaware?

    A private question will get you private information.

  7. Help!!!!

    I am using ITunes, and when I edit a new file, Wavepad replaces the old file automatically, so mt original file is replaced, and I cant retrive it as unedited

    ===========================

    Does WavePad save the file all by itself, while you are sitting there staring out into space, or perhaps do _you_ have to do something to cause such a dastardly result?

  8. I have created mp3 files from lectures that were recorded on magnetic tapes. The sound is not very loud or clear. I would like to make these files loud and clear. I've tried the different effects in Wave Pad, but I haven't been able to acheive what I'm after. I amplify and do a few other things and still does not sound very good. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks. Yisrael

    Is there a way IN WavePad to apply an effect (like AMPLIFY) to only one Track?

    =======================

    In a word: NO

  10. Well, didn't expect sarcasm here, but I can take it. I was willing to buy it, I had my credit card on my desk and almost bought Switch. Till I realized that it didn't come with wave pad. When I went to Wave pad I couldn't tell if I would be getting the same thing as I had in the free version.

    I can afford to buy it, I just don't want to buy something that is not like what I have now. The site is very very confusing and I had no idea what I was buying so I didn't buy it. This whole program stinks if you want my opinion. On the other hand I like the way wave pad compresses music files however so if there is another program out there that does this I would like to know about it.

    =======================================================

    Are you looking for a sound editor that does not "stink," but which also has the capability of compressing music files? If so, what is this business about a free version all about?

    Or are you complaining because software which is advertised as "free" is really a chameleon, changing its color after two weeks? Has it occurred to you that, if the software were free _forever_, no one would buy it, and the company would quickly go out of business? It is advertising the chameleon as "free" which I find highly objectionable. Nevertheless, do not confuse a smelly chameleon with a stinking performance, which seems to be what you are doing.

    I believe that you need to take a course in logical thinking, as a substitute for mindless ranting and raving.

  11. I downloaded "Switch" with "Switch" I also chose wave pad. Now the free version has expired,but I was able to download the free version of wave pad V.3.05. With that, I have the ability to compress music files to a smaller size. I have a lot of options there, but when my friend downloaded the exact same thing, she doesn't have those options what is the difference and how can she get the same thing I have? We both downloaded the same thing I really confused.

    ==================================

    What do you mean by "free"? Do you suppose that what _you_ mean by this word coincides with the meaning of this word "down under" in the land of Oz?

  12. I just downloaded this program & uploaded like 20 songs to convert. It only does 1 at a time. I looked everywhere but I don't see a place to change the setting so when I hit convert it will convert all 20 songs instead of me clicking each one. Does anyone else have this problem too? :mellow:

    =====================================

    I don't, since I paid for the program. It appears that you are using the "free" version which, after a period of two weeks from the time when you downloaded it, will no longer convert more than one file at a time. That is, the ability to do a "batch conversion" disappears from the "free" version after two weeks, never to be regained until you decide to pay up for the Switch Plus version, which has all of its faculties intact--forever and ever. No software Alzheimer's with the Plus version :-)

  13. Hi,

    Im having a problem with switch, when trying to convert files from .wma to.mp3. I can add all the files to the convert list fine, but when i click "convert, the following error pops up " Download install-on-demand mp3el". I followed a few links and found the area to download the plugins and got mp3el.exe, but when i tried to run that it asked me which application to run it with and thats where im stuck. Help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance :)

    ====================================================

    Do _not_ try to run the file "mp3el.exe"! This file takes its orders, as it were, from other happenings during the running of the application. In order that this file can do it is job, it must be located in the same directory as the file "switch.exe". Do a computer search for the location of the file "switch.exe"; then put the file "mp3el.exe" in this same directory.

    Now run the Switch program and repeat the steps for performing the conversion. Hopefully the problem will have been corrected. And hopefully, you know what I mean when I refer to "directory". If not, you are in trouble......

  16. When will the next version of WavePad be released?

    =====================================

    It is my understanding that this new expedited release of WavePad is scheduled for April 1, 2020 (it will be renamed Hindsight), by which time the remaining Bugs will hopefully have been eliminated from Microsoft's Vista operating system, whose new name will be Hasta la Vista.

    Any more questions?

    Musikgone

  17. I believe WavePad records whatever is sent to it. If the volume is not centered correctly, check your Windows volume settings (double click on the speaker icon in your system tray) and make sure that they're all centered. If need be you can correct the problem here as well.

    =======================================================

    By "here," I assume that you are referring to correcting the problem of a channel unbalance using WavePad in its normal editing function; i.e., _after the recording has been made_. If this is what you are saying is possible with WavePad, then this is certainly news to _me_! Have you ever done it? Even if you have not, exactly how would you go about adjusting the volume of just _one_ of the two stereo channels, without affecting the volume of the other channel?

    I believe that this is the question which was asked.

    Musikone

    [in my normal "interpreting" function :-)]

  18. I should add that I have tested using files that successfully converted before and it does not work (so it is not the file), and that while I specifically want to convert to MP3 I have tried to convert to other formats and none work (so it must be a converting-from-OGG problem).

    + Also tried the proposed solution listed here, but (as with that person) it did not seem to help.

    ======================================

    This problem with ogg is _not_ limited to the Macintosh operating system. I am using Windows XP and have tried unsuccessfully to get NCH to produce software that will open (read) an ogg file. They claim that their software will do this, but it will not, despite the fact that they have auxiliary ogg "components" which can be downloaded, purportedly for decoding ogg and saving as ogg--but do nothing!!

    It is high time that NCH fix this glaring error, or bug, or whatever one wishes to call it.

  19. Well I'll try, but the last attempt I made with this came back with the response along the lines of I could not have support as I'd not purchased any product . . .

    So this may be a little circular!

    =================================

    You have the wrong definition of "circular"!

  20. Zekeneal wishes to convert the flac files to mp3s, this is the purpose of Switch which is why I suggested they try it.

    ===========================================

    His desire to use WavePad for converting from one file format to another has nothing to do with the deplorable fact that WavePad cannot do what it claims: open (decode) a flac file and save edited clips as mp3 files! The fact that Switch _can_ do this is irrelevant.

    Suppose that Zekeneal had posted a complaint that he was unable to open a flac file and save the edited clips as flac files, a task which WavePad claims that it is able to do? What would you have advised him to do in _this_ case, when you would be able to come up with the "Switch" defense?

    Nothing! My answer would still be the same, however: WavePad does not do what it claims to be able to do.

    Musikone

    (things are not always what they appear to be in the Land of Oz!)

  21. Try using Switch and see if this works.

    =====================================================

    The information provided in the WavePad web page states:

    "Supports a number of file formats including wav (multiple codecs), mp3, vox, gsm, real audio, au, aif, FLAC (emphasis mine), ogg, and many more."

    My purchased version of WavePad (WavePad Master's version 3.05) does NOT open a flac file, nor does it do so if "flacdec" is installed form the NCH Swift Sound components page. Of course, it cannot be expected that installing flacdec would correct the problem, since there is no WavePad prompt to install this particular plug-in when an attempt is made to open a flac file.

    Hence it is quite clear that WavePad makes at least one claim in its advertising literature which is not supported by the flac facts, and which has not been supported by these facts for a very long time. In my opinion, the time is long past either to (1) reprogram WavePad in order to make it conform with this advertised claim, or (2) delete this particular claim from the advertising literature.

    I find your answer to the poster's question to be incredible! You are suggesting to an individual who is only asking that WavePad live up to its advertised claim is to _purchase another piece of NCH software to do the advertised job? You are an NCH employee who is now a "Professional" poster in this forum, which means only that you have posted here enough times to earn this particular forum degree. Is yours the NCH "official" answer to this poster's question? Or are you a loose cannon here in this forum, just trying to be helpful but acting without official sanction?

    I will save the questioner some time and effort. He/she need not try Switch; an excellent program, it does indeed convert flac files--and very well, at that. However, you seem to have missed the point; your answer is IRRELEVANT!

    Conclusion

    Perhaps the individual who asked this question should re-phrase it as follows:

    "Does anyone know of some sound editing software that _does_ load a flac file (i.e., decompress it to a .wav file as usual), and then permit the resulting edited file(s) to be saved in the flac format?" Phrasing the question in this manner might well have elicited a different response from some knowledgeable individual in this forum :-)

  22. I downloaded Wavepad a few days ago and it worked fine with Vista for me.... For awhile.... :lol: Now when I try to use it, it gives me this error that the song I'm trying to open is either corrupted or is not a true layer 3-MPG file! Garbage! A few days ago it opened the exact same song without any problem and let me edit it for length.. Now, it's to the point where it won't open any more files, no matter if it's opened them before or not.. Think Wavepad may not be the program for me, eh? The only thing I want it for is to decrease (or increase, as the case may be) the length of songs so I can burn them to CD's easier.. Perhaps the program just won't work with Vista.. :(

    Are you using the "free" version of Switch, which goes by the (in my opinion, deceptive) name of "Switch"?

    If so, has it been more than 15 days since you downloaded it?

    If the answer to these two questions is "yes," then I would suggest that you read the information provided by NCH on their "free" download of Switch! It states specifically that batch conversion is _not_ available in the free version of Switch, except for the initial trial period, which expires 15 days after downloading. Eventually, NCH may get around to advising you of this fact, right here in this forum. I just thought that I would save them the trouble, in order to highlight my belief that ( in the system of "free" software which they use to get people to try their software before buying, and to which I do _not_ object, per se) the free software which they name as "Switch" for trial purposes should, in reality, be named "Switch Minus," to denote that, after the trial period expires, this software will be working without certain key features SUCH AS BATCH CONVERSION no longer available.

    With this highly desirable naming of the "free" product, the REAL (i.e., purchased) program could then be named simply "Switch". With this change in naming, which I call "Truth in Naming," one who downloads the "free" version will know _exactly_ what he is getting!!!

    CORRECTION TO MY OWN POST!

    Obviously, I should have been using the name "WavePad," not "Switch"! I just rattled this off without thinking about the fact that I was responding to a post about WavePad. The same ideas that I elaborated upon in my response also apply to WavePad, of course.

    That is, I believe that the "free" version of WavePad should be called "WavePad Minus," while the purchased version should be called simply "WavePad", _not_ "WavePad Master's Version".

    Application of abstract reasoning processes leads to across-the-board product conclusions, which the Marketeering Department of NCH obviously abhors.

    Sorry about the confusion caused by my quick response to the user's inability to use batch conversion for what, according to my educated guess, is his failure to understand the workings of The System :-)
