    volume level!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Something like this IS included in the WavePad software which you purchase, but not in the demo software (or so I believe). The purchased software, which I use, is the WavePad Master's Edition, which is an excellent piece of software. The part of this software that I am talking about here is the "batch processor" for audio files. There is a normalizer in the WavePad program which will work on any number files (hence the name "batch") and it is quite easy and intuitive to use. This will bring the volume level of a whole batch of files up to the same level, and you may choose any level that you desire. Apart from this, I suspect that the poster edited an audio file using WavePad (whether demo or purchased) but did not pay close attention to the volume level bar in the lower right portion of the window. It is critical that the volume level of the saved file be adjusted properly. This can be tested by playing the file after the volume adjustment and observing how it is displayed on the volume level indicator. Ideally, the loudest peak in the music should go slightly into the red on this indicator. Perhaps the poster needs some experience in peak-level recording, which one must have in order to edit successfully using WavePad. He did not say, however, where he got his mp3 file, and it may have been recorded at too low a level.
  2. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Very simple! Just select the portion which consists of the part that you wish to remove (this portion is rendered in blue and white) and then press the "delete" key. The selected portion will then disappear. Alternatively, if you wish to replace the selected portion with silence, go to the Edit menu and choose "silence select region". Either way, you have got rid of the offending portion.
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It works for ME! I am not sure what your problem is, but I should note that I save the new file (a .wav file converted to mono) in a DIFFERENT directory from that containing the original .wav stereo file. I suspect that, if you try a "save as" to the same directory, this may not work. So try "save as" to a different directory and see if this solves your problem. I have never encountered this difficulty.
  4. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not understand your problem, since the "solution" seems to be very simple. I do this all of the time with no problem whatsoever. When you have a file which has been worked on and you do not wish to save the changes that you have made since opening the file, simply click on the "close" box for the particular file that you are working on. This is a smaller X in the upper right portion of the screen, as opposed to the larger X for closing the Wavepad application, which I presume you want to keep up and running. You will then be asked whether or not you wish to save the changes. Just answer "no" and the file will be closed. Your original file will be preserved _intact_, which is of course just what you are looking for. So what am I missing--if anything? Try it.
  5. I have two CD/DVD internal burners. The recorder menu in Express Burn v2.0 provides a drop-down menu for selecting your recorder. However, if no disc is inserted in either recorder, the selected recorder is not necessarily selected. It would be nice if the menu selection did indeed select a recorder without disk in it, since there is also an entry on the recorder menu ("eject") which opens the tray of the selected recorder. Using this eject selection, a recorder tray can be opened from the software, rather than requiring the user to manually search for that little eject button on the front of the burner. This can be awkward (as it is on my computer); opening the tray via the recorder menu is a much more elegant solution to this tray-opening procedure. It should be noted, however, that once a disk has been inserted in a recorder, that recorder then becomes the future default recorder. It is only when opening the tray when there is no disk in it, and when no default recorder has been previously set, that this peculiar little bug is in evidence. I just stumbled onto this while playing around with the newly installed Express Burn 2.0 Now if we can just squash that *major* audio CD bug (disk will burn but won't play!), we will probably have a real winner here! I am looking forward to this essential fix. Of course, other bugs may be set to bite. It would be very surprising if this were not the case. This little tray-opening bug is just a minor nuisance, however -
