  1. I also get the truncation when converting a mid file to mp3. The mid file is converted with NoteWorthy but it plays perfectly with Windows Media Reader. If I insert a tempo change in NoteWorthy the file gets truncated in the conversion but not at tempo change point. Very mysterious. I use the free version of Switch but in the circumstances I'm note tempted to buy.

    =====================================================

    Has it occurred to you that such a truncation is probably a part of the price that you are paying for this "free" version? :-)

    Looking at this another way: Insofar as computer software is concerned, and contrary to that old familiar saying:

    "The best things in life are not free"!

  2. im sorry Im prob in the wrong place, I am lost and without a map n compass lol :unsure:

    I received in email a 3g format attachment, could not open it, found these downlo0ads and great have managed to convert it to veiw it , but cant seem to forward it on via email once converted, i go to my documennts to sellect it to send in email, but its the unconverted file and when i click on it , it takes me back to have it converted again....hope i havnt confused any of you and I really hope you can help me with this problem....sorry for butting in on a completely differant topic :blink:;)

    Sorry about this add-on post, but I have changed my recommendation for your future course of action in this matter.

    To wit: instead of retreating to the Northland to take up skiing, perhaps you should head south for a cruise down the Mississippi river with your friend Tom :-)

  4. Here are extracts fromWavepad help.

    With the Master's Edition you have a set a features designed with the professional in mind. These include a file batch converter, keyboard macros and automation tools, bookmarks, file regions (with the region assembler) additional file formats and more.

    Features ~Supports a number of file formats including wav (multiple codecs), mp3, vox, gsm, real audio and more.

    Save an audio file

    To save the current audio file with the current name press Command+S.

    To save the file with a different name or in a different format use the menu File -> Save As..

    My issue is that while the HELP describe format options,SAVE AS give you only wav.

    ==============================================================

    Really?

    My Master's version of WavePad provides me with a whole variety of optional "save-as" formats!! Of course, I have to pull down the little pull-down menu near the bottom of the "save-as" dialogue box in order to see this list of options and to be able to choose the one that I want.

    Are you saying that you don't have this pull-down menu to make the same choice that I have?

    Or haven't you worded your objection properly?

  5. Why are we being forced to upgrade and purchase your Switch Plus software after a month of using your FREE Switch Audio File Converter software (attempting to use our FREE Switch Audio File Converter software gives us an expiration message indicating we need to upgrade/purchase your Switch Plus software)

    =========================================================

    It is _not_ true (contrary to that well-known saying) that "The best things in life are free"!!

    This being said, once you navigate your way through the hype and deception and promises, etc., etc. of a "free" Switch software, you will discover that you can continue to use that Wonderful "free" software indefinitely, except that your continued use of this Wonderful software will lack some of the important (many consider them to be _essential_) features which were designed into the program but have now been disabled when you have not paid for the software. In short, you are not being _forced_ to upgrade from "free" to "licensed" (paid-for) in order to continue using _something_ which resembles the purchased version.

    This obfuscation is the "price" that you must pay for thinking that you can actually get something free from a company whose livelihood depends upon the _sale_ of software.

    In summary: The BEST things in (software) life are NOT free!!!

  6. Just to be clear, one channel of my recordings is silent. I want to copy the other channel over, so that both channels have music in them.

    ===============================================

    Just to be clear; unless there is something that I do not know (which happens every once in a while), you will need to use a different audio editor to do this.

    Sigh! So back to the Northland, Mr. Finn.

    Have you thought about taking up skiing, instead of computers?

  7. I have recorded WAV files at 96kHz 24 bit and want to convert them to 44.1kHz 16 bit for playback on a standard CD player. mp3 is not playable on some of my machines.

    What is the best format conversion to achieve success here with Switch?

    Thanks,

    S

    ====================================================

    I would suggest that you use a 16 bit WAV file with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz. :-)

  8. Ill grab your email address out of this forum and send it to the Marketing team.

    ============================================

    Also tell them to adopt a rational naming procedure for the various versions of a piece of NCH software! I am sick and tired of seeing a reference to WavePad Master's edition and to Switch Plus, with the cut-down "free" versions being designated as "WavePad" and "Switch". This is nonsensical, if not ludicrous--not to mention deceptive.

  9. I thanked him for his reply to the post as far as "Plus" version I am guessing it is the latest version of wavepad. other then that I do not know.

    later..

    ============================================

    The "Plus" version is the licensed (i.e., paid-for) version of Switch. There is no Plus version of WavePad, despite the person whom you have thanked for his advice saying otherwise! The paid-for version of WavePad is referred to NCH as the "Master's" version. The free-forever version of WavePad is referred to NCH as "WavePad" :-)

    Go figure.

  10. Have now found a solution. Still not absolutely certain about the reasons for Nero problems (I think it is to do with ID3 tags), but life is too short to continue the search for a definitive answer.

    You are probably right. I do not use ID3 tags and have had no Nero problems.

  12. Because of the problems already listed elsewhere about NCH RIP failures to identify tracks via freeDB, I switched to using Windows Media to rip tunes from CDs that I own. These WMA files are then converted to mp3 using Switch and then Stamp to edit the ID3 tags if necessary.

    Because NCH Express Burn will not burn mp3 to CD (it converts them back limiting CD to 70 odd minutes) I tried using Nero to burn the CD. This will quite happily work with mp3 files created through Audacity (used to capture and convert vinyl records) but locks up with the NCH-created mp3s.

    Any advice or answers will be much appreciated.

    ============================================

    I have no idea what you are talking about!!

    I regularly use Switch to create mp3 files, and routinely use Nero to burn them to an audio CD (or a data DVD). I wonder if we are living on the same planet? Perhaps you would care to say exactly how you create an mp3 file using NCH. Be sure to state which NCH program you are using to do this. This happens to be relevant :-)

  13. I am considering purchasing a portable digital recorder that would be recording play-by-play in broadcast WAV file.

    Will WavePad convert a BWF file to mp3? I don't see it listed in the file types in the options menu. Will it recognize the file as a WAV?

    ====================================================

    What exactly do you mean by a "broadcast WAV file"?

    A .wav file is a .wav file is a .wav file is a .wav file..... :-)

    That is, any file which has the extension .wav can be converted to an mp3 file by any number of programs, including NCH's Switch or NCH's WavePad, as another example, etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum.

    There is _no such file as a BWF file_. So you can safely forget about something that does not exist!

    In other words, what is your problem here?

  16. Hi, I have tried various options to keep the size of edited MP3's small with no effect. Going from +- 3000 kb to 46 000 kb. Even when not much editing is done - example cutting 5 minutes of the end of a recoding . Any ideas welcome! thanks

    =======================================================

    I have an idea!!!

    You might try saving your edited file as an _mp3_ file instead of a _wav_ file, which is exactly what it is _after_ your mp3 file has been successfully loaded into WavePad :-)

    Read very carefully the instructions on using the "save-as" command.

  17. I have purchased a DJ-Tech Turntable and I am starting to convert my album collection to mp3 files. I have two problems thus far: 1) I cannot hear the track at all as I am recording it - it does not play through to my speakers. I can only hear it when I play back the recorded track. 2) The are some tracks that have the occasional audible 'clicks' in them. No matter what I try I cannot seem to remove these clicks from the tracks. Is there an easy way? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    ===============================================

    You can soon expect the usual "help" from NCH: a recommendation to use another NCH product (which I highly recommend, by the way) for this purpose, but without answering the technical questions that you are asking.

    If you get more help than this from NCH, I will be very surprised.

    While you have purchased a DJ-Tech Turntable, have you also _purchased_ WavePad, but only after informing yourself of NCH's well-stated position on answering questions such as those that you are asking?

  18. I would copy the .cda file to a CD.

    I take it from your reply that NCH does not have this feature right now.

    Mike Smith

    ======================================

    I take it that you have an mp3 file that you wish to write to a CD. If so, one very simple way to do this is to use NCH's Express Burn program, which you can download without charge. Read the instructions, which will tell you how you can "burn" (write) this file to a CD.

    Since no .cda file is involved in this burn-file-to-CD process, it will not make any difference to you that NCH does not have this feature right now--or ever :-)

    Does this solve your problem?

  19. I have just downloaded Switch 1.42. The Help File says that versions past 1.05 should handle conversion from .mp3 to .cda files.

    The Output menu at the bottom has no .cda option.

    How do I overcome this?

    Mike Smith

    =====================================================

  20. I downloaded switch v1.05 I think correctly. I copied tracks from a cd onto my hard drive and then tried to convert .cda tracks to .mp3 tracks to use on my mp3 player. It fails, saying cd ripping error?

    what am I doing wrong please?

    =============================================

    Exactly how did you manage to copy a track from your cd to your hard drive?

    If you don't answer this question, I cannot help you.

    It's that simple.

  21. Hi - I can't load cda files into wavepad to convert them to mp3's - any ideas ? Is there a plug in available?

    ============================================

    _I_ have an idea!!!

    My idea is that a cda "file" is not a sound file at all. Rather, it is a "pointer" _to_ a .wav sound file on an audio disc. As such, The sound file which is being pointed to must be brought out of hiding, as it were, and exposed with its true file extension, which is .wav. Then, WavePad can be used to edit the .wav file which has been exposed (poor thing!) But WavePad cannot do this special exposing job. However, Switch can do this expose, as well as the conversion to mp3, in one single operation.

    So my second idea is that you should download Switch, put your audio disc into the drive, and then drag one of those cda non-files from the audio disc into the Switch program window. Switch will accept this non-file without protest and show it in the window. Then go down to the bottom of the window and look at encoder settings to choose the mp3 parameters that you wish to use. For a regular audio disc (which I assume you are using as the source of your .cda non-file), you should choose a sampling rate of 44.1 khz and a bit rate of at least 128 kbps, which controls the amount of compression used in the mp3 process. Using a higher bit rate gets you a better sound quality but takes up more space in your chosen storage location. So pay your money and take your choice.

    Locate the directory (folder) that you wish to use to store your mp3 file. Then press the Switch "convert" button.

    If my idea is a good idea (and I suspect that it is), you should end up with an mp3 file (of that file on the audio disc which was hiding out) in the chosen directory :-).

    Musikone

    (been there, done that)

  22. I have tried the instructions to remove the clicks on the WavePad including spectral subtraction and multiband noise gates but they had no effect, the clicks are still there. I am creating a voice recording using an inbuilt microphone in my laptop. Can anyone help?

    ================================================

    Bad News!

    The clicks that you are talking about are not what the computer recognizes as "noise," even though you may think that these things are noise. Computer-recognized noise (and which can be reduced by the automatic noise-reduction methods provided in WavePad) is continuous, and is due to various equipment/media causes, etc.

    Furthermore, what WavePad may refer to as clicks and/or pops cannot be removed by any automatic means, despite WavePad's efforts to convince you otherwise.

    Therefore, if you want to get rid of these things, you will have to search each one out individually (the instructions will probably tell you how to do this) and then eliminate each such annoyance manually. One at a time. Repeat: one at a time. If this doesn't scare you off, then nothing will :-).

    Read the instructions on the manual removal of clicks and/or pops in a recording. Then settle down for a long night's work.

    Or then again, you may just wish to forget about the whole thing :-)

    Musikone

    (never one to gloss over little problems)

  23. pardon my intrusion here.

    But, you'll need to SAVE, the archived files

    such as [ save target as ] to a file that you name.

    wavepad can then edit out those pesky advertisements

    and convert the bit-rate and frequency too, if needed.

    you can also turn mono into stereo

    and the two other items I regularly use are

    automatic gain control and dynamic range compressor.
