  1. You are absolutely right, Barbara, and it's almost unbearable for me to transcribe in version 5.55 on my laptop. I have been using 4.30 on my desktop for years, but having Win7 on my laptop as well as a need for DSS file transcribing has forced me to purchase a Pro version of Express Scribe. Both 5.51 and now 5.55 produce a horrible tinny sound that I have not been able to get rid of. I did read from an old board about setting decibel levels to -30, that is negative 30, but this option is not available in either of these 5.xx versions. I am frustrated that I paid for a transcribing program that produces such low-quality audio! If NCH is going to require the Pro (paid) version to transcribe DSS files, at least provide settings adjustments to achieve quality audio.
  2. This exact same thing happened to me. Because my laptop uses Windows 7, I was unable to install Version 4.30, which I use on my Win XP desktop and which has worked perfectly for me for many years. I too was forced to upgrade to the paid version (5.51) for one client that uses the DSS format. Now I have this horrible tinny echo that I have spent the past hour trying to figure out how to get rid of!! I would be interested to know if anyone else transcribing DSS files using Express Scribe 5.51 has discovered how to get rid of this horrible echo. I've explored internal and external microphone settings, changed all different playback settings within Express Scribe, so many things I can't remember half of what I've done. Not one has made a bit of difference. I'm very disappointed in Express Scribe, having paid to have a version of their software that is almost unbearable to use. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.
  3. I'm using version 4.30 and have an Infinity IN-USB-1 foot pedal. No matter how high I set the Step (ms) rewind, my dictation does not back up when I remove my foot from the Play button. I can't figure out any other way to set this. I've tried rerunning the foot pedal wizard, nothing changes. I know 4.30 is an old version, but it works for me and I seem to read about so many other problems with newer versions, especially with foot pedals. Any suggestions on newer versions that might solve my problems without creating new ones? I'm running Windows XP on a Dell Vostro 400, Word 2010. Thanks for any help!
