  1. I just downloaded and paid for the latest version of Switch to convert some of WMA files to MP3.

However I'm finding either a bug or a limitation and want to see if anyone else has this problem before I elevate up to the developers.

When I load the files for conversion, say 23 of them, the program will only convert 17 of them! If I load 20, it only converts 10 and if I load 10 it converts 5 and no more.

The program is running in Vista, my settings are VBR with limits of 128 to 320 and a setting to delete the original file after conversion when placing it back in the original directory.

The files are kept in an external portable drive (320GB)

    Any ideas?

The way I do it is to combine Switch with Windows Explorer and it works great for me, and it's not any amount of extra effort to do it. First, I right click on the folder that I want to convert from and open a "search" window. I search for what I want to convert (i.e. *.wav). Then simply select all files; right click; and select "Convert with Switch Sound File Converter". That will open Switch and call up all those files. It's very important to leave the "search" window open at this time. Then go to the Switch window. Do NOT set it to delete the originals. Set all of the other options as you wish, such as "copy folder structure" of "Output to same folder as source files", and hit convert. After the conversion is finished, go back to the original "search" window. Make sure all the same files are still selected and simply hit "delete".

  2. You didn't mention your operating system. Since different OS versions of Switch support different file types, it's important information. For now, let's assume you use Windows.

If you "right click" on any of the files you are working with in Windows Explorer, what does "properties" tell you about the file? If it says that the file is a ".flac" audio file, then that's what it is, regardless of what the file suffix (the last letters after the dot in the file name) says it is. If anyone simply changed file names, (Example: Heros.flac to Heros.mp3), then that could cause many problems for programs trying to open those files. That would be the first thing to check.

I double-checked the Switch help pages. Their Windows version does support opening ".flac" files. You should have no problem opening and converting those files. Do you remember the exact error message that Switch gives you when you try to convert?

Also, I went to the Winamp home page. Their information doesn't say anything about being able to convert audio files. Winamp can play ".flac" files. It can rip and burn CDs. But as far as I can tell, it can't convert anything other than converting files from a CD to various formats, assuming you have the "Pro" version.

  3. You didn't mention what operating system you use. In Windows XP Pro, you can use "task manager" and right click the "switch.exe" process to access options for it. But be warned that changing the default settings could cause undesirable results and possibly crash the computer. It is an option, but not one that I would highly recommend.

    Hello,

I am Turki. Just I read in the Switch page about Switch features, and I noted (Optimized CPU usage and efficient code allows for fastest conversion times.) and I want to ask you if can I customize CPU usage and specify 50% of CPU to Switch and 50% of CPU for me during the conversion ?

Now when I use Switch, it takes 100% of my CPU and I cann't work or do any process in my computer !
