Remove Black Border around video

I have been using the demo version of Prism to convert VOB screening files I've pulled from DVD to .mp4 so I can import them into iMovie. Unfortunately they have a fairly large black border around them that I'd like to remove. Any ideas on how to do that - or which edit output settings would do that? My video is 16:9.
