  1. I've just downloaded a few different Photo editing software programmes. I got myself very frustrated and totally flummoxed by most of them, the ones I did understand at a glance, provided nowhere near enough tools or options.

I've only had a few minutes play around with Photopad and I really like it, it seems simple and I like the whole look of it. I'm looking forward to doing more with it.

In my limited experience it is sometimes impossible to enlarge a fairly small original without losing a lot of clarity. It tends to blur or pixellate. :(

you basically lose quality enlarging any file that isn't a vector image sadly.. so be careful whenever you reduce a files dimensions if you're going to save over the original :)

  2. Good sleuthing indeed!

This has been suggested before and I'm 99% sure implemented in the current test build, so keep an eye out for it next release. :)

  3. Doesn't anyone know what the latest free version of Switch is? It seems to be version 1.5 and I can't seem to find (or download) the 1.5.2 version anywhere listed on VersionTracker...

Thanks to anyone who can tell me the answer to this mystery.

    Gerard

1.52 for Mac was released on 2009-01-14

2.01 for PC was released on 2009-03-02

  4. I bought Prism Video Converter Plus Version because MS Movie Maker won't recognize the .avi format my Fuji camera produces.

Conversion of .avi movies to .mov produces audio quality much inferior to the original .avi version's. I raised the bitrate, but it didn't help.

Is there a solution, or did I waste my money?

    Hi,

Which bitrate did you shift it to, and does the same audio quality degradation happen when you convert these .avi's to the other file formats Prism can export as? A lot of the default sound settings are set low, but it could be an audio decoder problem..

Also try going into Options -> Conversions and ticking the box down the bottom that has "use FFMPEG first" beside it.

  5. Allen, I know this is late but it may help others. I had the same problem and found that if you right click on one of the blank audio panels at the bottom of the screen, everything changes. The files I imported showed up in a window that was minimized in the top left corner. Found that right clicks at various places had similar results as whole sections appeared from nowhere. Great things can be found by right and left clicking....try it. I can't get more detailed at the moment as I haven't figured it all out yet.

Beat me to it.. I know when I run VideoPad on smaller monitors, some of the windows get shrunk or disappear. I'm not sure if there is a simple solution unless floating windows were somehow involved.

  6. my problem with video pad is in adding a text/title to my movie....when i add a text/title it shows thru the entire movie...i would like to be able to add the movie title on a separate page at the beginning of the movie and then have it fade out when the movie plays.... any way to do this??? windows movie maker 2 has the ideal title maker... i agree with scottmac03 on the manuals and since i am a novice computer operator all the help i can get is appreciated

I think the only way to achieve this at the moment would be to create a still image in a program such as MSPaint, with the title on it, then insert that image at the start of the video and have it crossfade into the beginning of the first clip.

This is kind of similar to the other thread on creating credits, seems like quite a high demand feature..

  7.;) Didn't even think of doing that. Just a zombie sometimes and expect to see everything done for you. Thank you very much for the idea. It does suit what I need. How ever, a lazy pre-setup credit would of been nice

I'll submit that as a future suggestion as it would be a very popular feature if it hasn't already been considered

  8. i record my vocals seperately then add them to the music so naturally the music sounds great, but my voice just doesn't have that same quality. it doesn't sound totally horrible or anything but you can kind of tell that i recorded it in a bedroom on a computer microphone. is there anything i can do to make my voice sound more "professional" so it can sound just as good as the music? a better microphone maybe? should i be using certain effects or anything? please help! thanks in advance, any advice is appreciated.

A better microphone and preamp is a good place to start. Essentially if the initial recording is of a certain quality, it will never really get any better. You can run a million noise reduction FX but bottom line is hardware.

That being said, Dynamic Compression and the right Equalising can do wonders. The problem with compressing a bad original signal though is, all that white noise in the background will actually be increased in volume! hence why it's important to capture a nice clean signal originally.

You might want to try googling equalizing, its a bit of an art and highly dependant on the individuals voice. Less is generally better, and cutting frequencies as opposed to boosting them is prefered.

Compression will just even out the signal in general too, so it is worth looking into if your vocal technique tends to go very loud then very soft.

  9. Videopad currently has no paid version, so you would already have access to it's full features.

I just loaded some .vob's into it successfully. the .bup files may have been causing some confusion (I'd never heard of them before, had to do a bit of googling)

If you still have the DVD, i'd recommend ripping it with Prism then loading the file into Videopad for the chopping.

  10. SouthenGuy, put down what ever you read that on, and promptly wipe your ass with it.

The way in which to achieve what you are doing is to buy some conversion software.. like NCH switch or wotEVA

    Peace.

    Quiet you.

    Hi Nashville!

If you go to 'File' and 'Save As' there should be a dropdown menu at the bottom of the save dialog that lets you select the file format you wish to save as :)

  11. I have digital camera video clips I used in making a slide show, and it was burned using a DVD format. While I can make an identical copy of this slide show, I wish to edit and use some of these clips again, and unfortunately deleted them( the raw format) from my computer with the recycle bin. So while I can copy that show back to my computer, I cannot open these files since they are are now video_TS.BUP files.

So I downloaded your free edition of Prism, and managed to convert them back to an .avi file that my slideshow program will accept. But it seemed to convert them all in one file together, and I do not see where the options of editing or cropping are, to maybe crop and section this file back into individual clips like they started out to be.

I did purchase your Wavepad for audio files, and there are clear instructions on how to shorten and edit these files into the lengths you wish them to be. Do you have to purchase your premium edition of Prism to do what I want to do, or will the free one work to edit this file?

I hope I have explained this correctly. I am upset with myself that I did not save the raw format of these clips from my camera.

    Thanks!

Try Video Pad! once you get the hang out it, splitting a video and saving each segment becomes quite easy.

  12. You need to lower the bitrate of your file. The bitrate affects the file size of your video output as well as its quality. The lower the bitrate, the smaller the file size but the output quality will also be lowered. Click the Encoder Options button or the Bitrate Settings button after pressing the Build button in order to change the bitrates.

You can use a bitrate calculator to predict the output size of your file based on your audio and video bitrates and the total running time of your video.

    Online bitrate calculator

    http://www.3ivx.com/support/calculator/index.html

    Offline bitrate calculator

    http://www.videohelp.com/BitrateCalc.zip

    now that is useful! :)

I'm rather insistant on VideoPad being able to estimate video size as a future feature.. so we'll see.

  13. I have been using the demo version of Prism to convert VOB screening files I've pulled from DVD to .mp4 so I can import them into iMovie. Unfortunately they have a fairly large black border around them that I'd like to remove. Any ideas on how to do that - or which edit output settings would do that? My video is 16:9.

you might want to check out VideoPad, it is a lot more precise when it comes to cropping your video :)

  14. When I convert a 3gpp file from my cell phone to mpeg or wmv the sound doesn't transfer correctly. I have have the ffmpeg box checked and have tried different encoder options (bitrates, etc.) but nothing changes. Also, the wmv and mpeg files seem to be larger as I can email the 3gpp but the other two are too big to email. Any help appreciates

.3gp are a highly compressed video format made for mobile phones, going to mpeg will increase their size and in no way improve the video or sound quality. (basic rule of data destruction)

What exactly is the sound doing however? it should remain the same quality, but if it is out of sync or distorted I will have a look into it.

  15. I need to convert files to

    24 kbps 22050 hz mono MP3

    Can this software offer that?

Switch can't, but if you load the file(s) into Wavepad you can use the File menu to convert the sample rate and channels to mono, then save as mp3 in 24kbps :)

  16. :( hello everybody! this is a problem i 've smashed my head to solve it and couldn't. I have a new mobile the sony erickson W595, good mobile and i shoot a two quick videos in the weekend. i transfered in my computer, a HP laptop, but there's the problem..while i was taking the video i was carried away by my artistic mood and filmed in horizontal position..and couldn't reverse it into standing one..and here's the surprise: inside the mobile i could reverse it..it had a setting and put it from the laying position to the upright one..but even then when i tried to transfer to the computer, again it was horizontal..and it is a tall building, you cannot have it laying down..how can i solve this? it is an easy thing to do in photos..you rotate them ..but in video cannot find the way to do it..must i go out and shoot again? or is it possible that we find the solution here? if anyone knows please please please help me..i want to upload it on the web and it is so beautiful video..it's a shame to go wasted..thanks anyway..

    Hi there,

You sure can. Load it up in VideoPad and click the little green star to on the video open the effects dialog. Under the 'Crop' options, there should appear two green arrows to the right of the preview, these are the rotate buttons.

  17. Hi everyone,

I just joined. For years I have asked myself how I could identify the Low Frequency note at around 3Min 15sec into the track "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon & Garfunkel. I thiught I could use WavePad and bought it to analyse that note but I am foxed. Can anyone please help me how to do it.

    Regards

    William

A frequency analysis of that spot in the song will provide you with some potential useful information. Have you tried using Twelve Keys? it tracks bass notes pretty well and you can cross reference if its correct by using the synth keyboard built into it

  18. I've been using the Audio Tags Editor to name my WAV files, and to include Track Number, etc., but when I browse the saved files, the information isn't there, and when I burn the CD, the information doesn't show up there either.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi!

WAV files don't store extra tag information, you'll either have to manually enter the details or export as mp3 which should hopefully import the Tag details
