  1. I won't be back in that classroom for a day or two, and will specifically confirm that.. but I think it is, because it all works.. I push F7 and it does rewind.. thats not the problem.. I use F2 to proceed at 85% and I use F4 to stop.. once in a while I use F8 to zoom along a bit.. and all those things happen as they are supposed too.. the thing that goes wrong, is that if I am proceeding along transcribing, I hit F7 to rewind, and it rewinds, but when I let go of the F7, my "focus" does not return to the Word document, and I have to take my hand off the keyboard to click the mouse before my cursor reappears in the Word document.. thanks Helen
  2. I find my system which is admittedly old (but still more that meets the stated requirements) has trouble responding to my commands unless I have the "use old method of slowing down"... without checking that I can wait several second before the system responds and backspaces, or stops in response to a function key.. or even displays the words I just typed... I generally like to work with my dictations at about 85% of regular speed.. However, working like that, with the "use old method of slowing down", I have this one dictation file that becomes muddled with an echo if I slow it down to less than 93%... at 93% it is perfectly clear... at 92% it is muddled and echoy... very hard to listen too.. so.. it seems I have my choice... I can wait long enough to type most of a line to see what I have typed.. or I can hear the dictation muddled with an echo.. I am so frustrated...
  3. I was able to download the latest version of Express Scribe from the website and overwrite the version on my machine at school but I still have the same problem.. something is not letting the focus return to my Word document after I use the function keys to perform a Express Scribe function... it seems like this would be a fairly common setup.. Xp with Office 2007...
  4. I'm taking a transcription course at a University in BC, Canada. we are using Express Scribe in our class room, and I have dowloaded it to use at home.. at home I am using Win98SE and Word97 -- I know, old.. but very functional and working JUST FINE... at school we are using XP and Word2007.. and I am finding it extremely frustrating.. I like to use the function keys instead of the pedal.. I use the Miniscribe, floating over my word document.. using mostly F7 to rewind, and F2 to process at a little less than life speed... all works well at home... but at school... when I hit F7 to rewind, the cursor disappears from the Word Document, and I am forced to move my hand from the keyboard to click the mouse on the document in order to get the cursor back there and get transcribing again.. For a touch typist, thats the worst thing you can do, take your hands from the keyboard?? does anyone know if there is anything I can do about it, or is Expressscribe and just broken when using the function keys with XP and Word2007? I have to write all my exams at school under these conditions and it costs me marks and time.. hopefully, Helen
