  1. No answer as yet, although I noticed today that there's now a new version of Express Scribe (4.36) which might address the problem, but I haven't had time to download it yet (do I have to install v.4.35 first?). Its a bit of a major bug since ES is used by transcribers, who use a footpedal, so if the footpedal isn't working properly we're a bit screwed. There are other versions available on the internet, but you never know if they're 'safe' to download. I'd go back to v.4.05 in a breath, never gave me any problems. Has anyone upgraded to v.4.36 yet? Does this solve the footpedal problem?
  2. Hello. I have ES 4.35 and it displays the time as 1:35:15.2 (1hr, 35 mins, 15 secs), whereas before it used to display just the minutes as a whole number, 95.15. I like the whole minutes display so I can see when I'm coming to the end of a dictation without having to do calculations in my head (and often getting it wrong, maths was never my strong point). Can I change it to just show minutes and not hours and minutes? Small problem, but annoying.
  3. Hi Suzanne Thanks for that, good to know its not just me. I've been using ES for nearly three years too and never had the problem before, so maybe its the new version of ES. I've tried all sorts of things but nothing works, and yes, it is unbelievably annoying. I'll send a bug report too, hopefully they'll have a look at it. Debbie
  4. Playback speed you can control using the Speed bar on the bottom right, just move it left a bit. Backspacing you can adjust (so it goes back a few seconds when you take your foot off the pedal) by going to Options, then 'Auto backstep on stop'... I have mine set to 1500, just type in a number to see what suits you best.
  5. You transcribed into the Express Scribe notes screen?!! Open a Word doc and save in the usual way. The two-arrows button recovers old dictations, try that to see if your work is still there (then copy and paste into Word).
  6. A zip file is a squashed file so its smaller to upload/download. When you receive it you have to 'unsquash' it by double clicking it and saving to a folder, any folder, or your desktop, just somewhere you can find it. Once its unsquashed, you should be able to open it with Express Scribe - ES won't open a zip file, it wants the unsquashed version of the file. It should work, if not, you may have to right click the unsquashed file and uncheck 'protected file' at the bottom, that sometimes stops it from loading.
  7. I wondered where all the file associations had gone with the new version of ES, now I know. Thanks for this, it was very helpful.
  8. Hi there I recently had to purchase a new laptop because the old one just lost the will to live, both run Vista. I downloaded ES 4.35 (previously had v.4.05) and everything works fine, except for the foot pedal. When I press 'play' there's a whole second delay before the audio starts playing, and when I tap the 'play' button there's also a delay before it backspaces a half second, whereas before tapping would backspace immediately (I have backspace settings, but I'm used to tapping 'play' for little backspacing, if you see what I mean). I've downloaded the vecusb driver, moved it to the NCH Swift Sound/Scribe folder, opened it, installed driver, then right clicked to allow it to run as administrator, but this doesn't help. There's also a vecusb.dll file in there too, assuming that's the driver. I've also uninstalled then reinstalled ES, and run the controller wizard several times, but I still get the delay. My Windows updates are all up-to-date. I've searched the forums and the net for an answer to this problem, but nobody else seems to have encountered it. I'm a professional transcriber so I need the foot pedal to be more sensitive than it is... it worked well (and still does) on my old laptop. Any suggestions? Debbie
  9. Hi, I'm back! The big buttons at the top actually appeared when I turned the computer on this morning, so I have them back again (phew).
  10. Hi - I had this same problem, transcribing from camera video. Its a bit long winded, but the way I got round it was by loading up SOUND RECORDER, playing the video and recording it from the speakers into a microphone. I then converted the saved file (which is massive!) to MP3 and loaded it onto ES so I could just hear the sound and type it up. Hope this helps. (conversion software can be found free on the internet)
  11. Hi Pattie Have you gone into SETTINGS, PEDAL AND CONTROLS, and selected your brand of footpedals from the list? You probably have, but just thought I'd mention it.
  12. Hi there - I'm probably being dense, but I've had to go back to using my old laptop whilst my new one is being repaired, so I downloaded the new version (4.20 I think) of Express Scribe. All working well, but I can't find (and have forgotten) how to get the buttons at the top that say LOAD and DONE, which I found really useful. They're not in view, how do I get them back? Its probably something really simple. Can anyone let me know?
