  1. I am using Window XP and currently running Express Scribe v 5.10. When trying to install the newest version, the program stops responding after I click the button to accept the license agreement. Fortunately, it doesn't tamper with the current installation but what good is an upgrade if it won't install?

I am also having the same problem, cannot get past the license agreement page when upgrading. I use Windows XP. Is there a solution? It's frustrating!

  2. Hi Marcia,

I'm a scopist in Houston and a reporter I work with recently started using the Olympus recorder. I'm not sure what .dss files are. Another audio format, I guess. He has .wma files from the Olympus he uses. Other reporters I work with have .wav files (from audiosync/CATalyst). The .wav files seem to be easiest to work with, but the .wma files have been a little tricky. We had a problem with the uploading/downloading with whalemail, but we got it resolved today.

But I thought maybe if you loaded your files onto the desktop from your Olympus recorder and then just dragged them into Express Scribe, which is how they do it, that might solve your problem. Right now I have a 200-page transcript loaded and it seems to be fine. Just a thought........

    Happy Reporting!

  3. I have recently had a couple of audio files that were quite lengthy....one was 4 hours and one was 5 hours. I use an Olympus DS50 recorder which I have been using for approximately 6 months. To transfer my files I dock on my high speed docking station and the files transfer to my DSS player....at that point I go into Express Scribe and download the files from my DSS Player.....

On the 4 hour audio at the point of 3 hrs and 20 min, if you run the foot pedal continuously the audio is fine.....but if you take your foot off the foot pedal the audio returns to the beginning of the file....this also happened on the 5 hour audio at the same point 3 hrs and 20 min....the file on DSS player is fine.

I contacted Olympus first....just to make sure I had my settings correct on record time for the recorder....which there was no problem there....I then paid for Express Scribe techincal support....response has been VERY slow....their first response was that there is no limit to space for an audio file on Express Scribe....their latest response has been for me to download the latest version of Express Scribe.....

Was just wondering if there is a setting in Express Scribe that I may have overlooked that limits the audio space for a file.....

If someone can help me I will be much appreciative.....I also have another problem but will address that in the future.....

    Thanks for your help!

    Have a great day!
