Text cannot be typed to the end of the line.

When I add lyrics to a system, the words will not go as far as the accompanying notes. It is like there i a limit to how far one can type that is less than the musical notes in the last measure of the system. Can I add a longer width to the text. -
How do I combine measures? I have a line of 3 measures and then the next line has only one measure. I want to make it two and two.
