Ha! Figured it out. Stereo does work. After opening a stereo file when I Saved As I was so preoccupied with where I was saving to and changing the name from the track number I didn't see the stereo/mono options. The default was mono.

Wavepad is a great freebie BUT files that we opened for the first time are stereo and then switch to mono when edited. The stereo option in the editing menu doesn't actually seem to DO anything, although I've read that it makes the file larger. Does the Professional Version of Wavepad actually provide stereo? If not, are there any other freebies that do?
