VideoPad shuts down during export

I paid for updated VideoPad 3 months ago.  Never had problems before.  Now the program shuts down my entire computer while it is exporting to mp4 format.  No matter what the size of the video content.  Why is this happening?

Any error messages?  This is very odd.  Under OPTIONS | DISK tab Clear Unused Cache Files.

Be sure that the video drivers and Direct-X are up to date.

You might also install this version of Videopad.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

If this persists, share your PORTABLE project, per the instructions at this link.  Report back.

Thank you for the link.  It fixed the problem and I have been able to export my video without any glitch.  Thank you again.

Unfortunately, I got too happy too soon.  I recently tried (and am trying as of the writing of this post) to save a vpj file  that is 9 minutes long with various edits and cuts.  Again, less than half way through the saving process . . . my entire computer shut down.  This only happens when I am saving a vpj file.  (I have painstakingly watch the saving process and there are no error messages, nothing wacky with the file . . . it just shuts down my computer.  The Videopad version I have is Professional v8.45.  Granted, I am still using Microsoft 7 (I hope to upgrade later this summer).  I really don't want to purchase either another videopad or move to another video software editing program (I like videopad).  I am very far behind in uploading my content.  Any suggestions?

Is it possible to get the older version of Videopad?  I had no problems until I purchased the upgrade.

You might also test the latest beta.

Share that project and someone here will test it on their system.

Simply follow the PORTABLE project procedure outlined at this link.  Save a PORTABLE project, upload that folder, share it.

The PORTABLE project folder that you will upload contains all source files + the VPJ control file.  Then others can run it in Videopad just as you do there.  It is the best way to diagnose.

Good morning.  Unfortunately, I cannot share the file(s) from my VideoPad project(s) as you requested. This professional version of VideoPad will save my project as vpj, but NOT as  MP4, portable, or YouTube, I have even lowered the resolution and each time, it has shutdown my computer.  I can also say that this updated professional version is VERY SLOW! Each time, it has taken as long as 15 minutes to save less than 25% of my content before it crashes my computer, with no error messages and no messages upon restart.  This has been going on for 2 months, my content is backed up and now I have to make a decision to purchase another video editing software, so  I have uninstalled the VideoPad program (including WavePad [which I have NOT updated since I purchased it 2 years ago).  At this point, I know I cannot get a refund, but can I get a link to the previous VideoPad version that I have been using these past 2 years, which I never had a problem with?

Don't know the length and resolution of your videos, but speed has improved in recent VP versions when compared with older releases.  Crashing has not been reported by others, AFAIK, so this may be a PC issue.  Do update the video driver and confirm the latest Direct-X as instructed above.

Saving a project creates a VPJ file that is not playable;  it maps the source files and what to do with them.  Exporting is used for the final product, as you know.

If you provide a PORTABLE project file of a video that crashes your PC, someone will analyse it.  This can be done privately via the folder at the top-right of this forum.  It will not be shared.

Though you have uninstalled, check these folders and remove all files that they contain...

"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCH Software\Components" or "C:\Program Files\NCH Software\Components

"C:\Users\<PC name>\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\Components"

Test the latest release.
