Wav. song will not play in wavepad

Hi - rather basic. I am a new user. I used to FILE - OPEN FILE to load a wave file in. Help says to use FILE - ADD but I could not find add as a choice under FILE (seems odd). I have tried the green PLAY button and F9, but the vertical yellow line will not move under either. The PLAY button appears highlighted.

 

What do I need to do to get my song to play?

 

I have Windows XP.

 

Under OPTIONS - AUDIO PROCESSING, MY SOUND CARD (AN emu 0202) is correctly indicated as the device
