blackdog
Got WavePad running on my work Windows XP Professional machine. Everthing totally cool. Tried tonight to get up to speed on my home machine, also Windows XP, but Home edition. No recording whatsoever. The standard Windows audio controls panel: Recording Audio panel has only three channels: Line In, Mic, and Rear Mic. At work, there's an input/recording channel called Wave. Basically this will enable recording of everything that hits the soundcard. How the heck to I get a control panel with a recording option/channel for Wave? Otherwise, it appears, I just AIN"T gonna get ANYTHING recorded. (unless I plug a line input into the sound card) Any help for this newbie would be most appreciated. This HAS to be one of the most basic issues ever!!! Muchos gracias. Blackdog
blackdog
I should also mention that I get the timer, so the recorder is running. Just not getting any input.
mike20021969
so on your work machine you see similar to this: but you dont see it on your home machine?
blackdog
That's the exact panel I have at home. However, the Default Sound In apparently is not getting the sound from the sound card to the recorder. I'm not sure what the other settings are but they don't work either. At work I have a slightly more detailed screen for recorder inputs. It is labelled "Surround Mixer". {SB Audiology [DCC0] } It has section called "Basic" (volume, bass, treble) and section called "Advanced" (with sliders for Wave, Midi Synth, CD Audi, Line-In, CD Digital, And Auxiliary) and also a slider for Record Level (strangely labelled "What You Hear") Wish I know how to copy and past that screen to show you. But that works perfectly. so with the screen that you show, is the implication that "Default Sound" In should be delivering whatever signal is hitting the sound card to the recorder? I appreciate you taking the time to help me figure this out. I feel like a dummy; this has to be the most basic problem ever...
blackdog
Also, I should add, I do NOT see the "Wave Out" option on my screen that you show on yours. THAT'S the root of the problem I think.
mike20021969
the default sound out on my screenshot is what wavepad uses to playback the sound recording i have made with the software. under Recording heading, what options have you got when you drop down the Device tab? try selecting your soundcard(s) options in Device, then drop down the menu for Input to see what is listed. do this until you find the Input you are looking for. blackdog
Mike On the home machine: Under Recording Device Default Sound In Sigma Tel Audio Modem #0 Line Record That's It Under Input Windows Record Mixer Line In Microphone Rear Microphone Now I was not very clear in my last message. Of course I get this Record dialog box from WavePad at both hom and work. What I should have said was that at work, when I click on the tiny icon for volume at the lower right tray on the desktop, I get a significantly more complex sound mixer panel. With Wave channel on the mixer and an actual Record Level slider. At home, the mixer control from windows is very simple, and includes no channel for Wave input and includes no Record Level slider. Still no recording happening at home. ideas?
blackdog
Mike One more thing! Even the cheap 60-second Sound Recorder from the stock Windows Control Panal-Sounds....won't record a signal. everything runds...the timer runds...just as it does on wordPad but appraently there is just no signal getting from the sound card to the recorder. It's like the recorders just will not accept Wave format. This machine is only about 10 months old. PS: I have the screen shot from Windows...how do you insert it here? "paste" doesn't work. mike20021969
PS: I have the screen shot from Windows...how do you insert it here? "paste" doesn't work. upload an image (resized to about 600 pixels wide),to TinyPic.com then copy and paste the IMG code you get into your reply. in windows sound recorder>edit>audio properties, what is your default device? if you cant record in windows sound recorder, then it sounds like the problem isn't to do with wavepad. I agree, it does not seem like WavePad is the problem. It seems like the integral recording software associated with my (on the motherboard) integral sound card is not great. I downloaded NCH SoundTap, as a run-around. It worked, but that free version blows: It inserts a tag "Please purchase sound tap" every ten seconds into the files. Maybe there is some freeware that's available to agument the recording capabilities. Otherwise, would I need to buy and install a better sound card? Also, regarding the screen shot and getting an image uploaded here: Once I get the screen shot, do I paste it into somethig like MS Image Editor in order to wind up with a jpg? Pasting the screen schot into MS Editor does not seem to work. sorry for the ignorance. I DO work on computers all day long but it seems there are alwasy 100 things I don't know for ever 10 I do know! Thanks again for the help Mike. I'm doing all this recodring at work! And I should just be goofing off at home!!!
blackdog
Mike Also, I tried NCH MixPad here at home and I could NOT get a recorded clip from that! So SoundTap is the only software that actually gets anything recorded with the sound card I have. The record portion of WavePad won't and MixPad won't. I'm just totally mystified as to what hardware or software I need to get to enable this basic function.
mike20021969
Maybe there is some freeware that's available to agument the recording capabilities. google for audacity (it's free and very good) or check your private messages for the link to it. Also, regarding the screen shot and getting an image uploaded here: Once I get the screen shot, do I paste it into somethig like MS Image Editor in order to wind up with a jpg? Pasting the screen schot into MS Editor does not seem to work. get your screen shot onto the clipboard (i press 'fn+prt sc' on my laptop). in your image editing software, you have to then do: file>new. name the new file if prompted.then choose edit>paste.then save. once saved, resize it to 600 pixels wide then save as (rename the resized file so you keep the original image just in case). or you may want to try irfanview for your screen captures (you can choose what part of the screen you want saving.and it can save the file as jpg,png and many others). download it here: http://www.irfanview.com/ then upload to tinypic.com. post the IMG link into your reply.
