voice stops in middle of file

Have been using an old version 3.14 which works fine with the dss files. All of a sudden now, when a file is being played, the file will continue playing, but with no sound. The sound just stops in the middle of the file. Even pulled up old files which had already been completed and now not able to hear any sound from them either. Am able to play other sound and video files in other programs so it is not the sound card. Tried deleting the program and reinstalling it, but same problem.

 

Any suggestions?
