Help help help!!

Hi i have recently downloaded wavepad as a trial, i have got vocal recordings from a lecture via a dicta phone i need to know weather this programme is use full for only vocal editing and how to clear out the background noises so as the vocals become much clearer. I have tried using noise reduction to remove hum and hiss but it seem to take out some of the vocals too??

 

P.S i really do not have a clue about sound editing so please try and explain to me as if you are speaking to a child, sorry for being such a dumbass,

Simply play around with the noise removal and some of the other effects. The success will be varied due to the nature of the audio file. It is most likely not possible to remove all the noise while leaving the voice completely intact, because there will undoubtedly be overlaps in frequency of the two.
