It seems that I can't get the channel with the court reporter to go off and stay off. Every time I hit the stop key or start key or any key for that matter, she comes right back in my other ear. How do i stop this?

Are you working with a multi channel audio file, and you're turning off particular channels? If you turn all the channels off you shouldn't hear any audio at all. If you look at the green sound bars (bottom left on the Express Scribe window) you will see that turning a channel off does not completely eliminate it from, the playback. This cannot be changed.
