.wav to .mp3 fails

Switch 1.11

Every time I try and convert it fails with error:

the output format requires a plug in that is not installed.

WavePad gives me the same problem if I try and save the file to mp3 extension.

However!!

If (in WavePad) I use save file as... specify a .wav extension and MPEG Layer 3 format, I get what appears to be an mp3 file.

If I open the .wav file in Switch it tells me it is MPEG Layer 3 codec and the file size is very small and it plays<G>.

Can someone please help/explain?

I tried to do a search before posting; but the forum complained that some search words were less than 4 characters (wav, mp3).

In case it is relevant, I used SystemSuite to move the applications after install to my F: drive. I automates the move of files, dependencies and registry entries. C: is reserved for the O/S.

Thanks,

Clive
