Adding video/audio to an accompaniment track

I have been able to record video and audio while playing along with a recorded accompaniment which is being played on another device.  And I have figured out that the accompaniment track can be played with videopad while recording video/audio on the same computer.  But the tracks have to be manually synchronized after recording.  Recording video and audio to add to an accompaniment track seems like a very basic operation but I can find no instructions for doing that or discussions in tutorials and forums for this.  Is this the wrong tool for this?
