Not removing silence with Auto-Trim

Greetings. I'm using my digital voice recorder to record work conversations to help with my recall. Obviously listening to old conversations is time consuming so I want to remove dead time automatically. As I read auto-trim I should be able to do this but regardless of how I set the threshold it seems to make no difference. I select a section or the hole recording and ... nothing changes. Thanks in advance for the help!!
